‘Tomorrow’s never promised’ – Kevin Owens issues WWE contract update amid fears ahead of Netflix debut

Kevin Owens is excited to be part of WWE ahead of its huge Netflix debut. However he is remaining tight-lipped about his future with the company. Kevin Owens has been playing the angriest of on-screen villains as of lateWWE The Canadian is enjoying a major run at present as one of WWE’s top villains, and he challenges for the Undisputed Championship against Cody Rhodes on Saturday. The duo will headline the upcoming ‘Saturday Night’s Main Event’ and, with the huge switch of Monday Night Raw to Netflix in the New Year – and a host of other WWE international programming – it’s clearly an unmissable time. What’s appears less clear is Owens’ long-term future with the world’s biggest professional wrestling company. The hugely successful and respected performer previously admitted that his contract with WWE would come to an end in 2025 and, with such a stellar career under his belt and his current standing in the company, it’s natural that a free-agent Owens would be hot property. Owens joined talkSPORT.com for an exclusive interview ahead Saturday Night’s Main Event and, when discussing his status, was typically coy – saying: ‘tomorrow’s never promised.’ “I’m happy to be doing this for a living,” he added when questioned further. “I’m lucky and grateful to have the chance to go to work and do something I’ve always wanted to do. “There’s really nothing else I ever wanted to do for a living, so it’s a privilege that I get to do this every week, absolutely.” A happy and content Owens is undoubtedly a huge asset to WWE, or any wrestling company on the planet, given there would surely be interest from rivals All Elite Wrestling should he become available. Asked more directly on whether he’s reached a decision on his immediate future, he stopped short of committing to an answer, simply adding: “I don’t take anything for granted, ever. “I am enjoying what I am doing now, and tomorrow’s never promised.” Owens began wrestling over two decades ago and is a former Universal Champion in WWEWWE What perhaps did give a greater insight into where Owens sees himself in future was when the 40-year-old discussed the Netflix move. Speaking excitedly about the ground-breaking deal, said to be worth $5 billion, he went on: “When we first heard rumblings of Raw moving to Netflix, it was so intriguing: how would it work? What would be the specifics, and all this stuff. “Now we obviously know what’s going to happen and it’s pretty surreal and exciting to see how rapidly everything can change in the span of five years. “Obviously this is a huge deal for WWE and everybody is super pumped… it’s like a new beginning in a lot of ways. “Nothing like this has ever been done before, Netflix was always on cable TV and now it’s a streaming service and it’s going to be live. “All over the world, except for the US, everything is going to be on Netflix, it’s very exciting times to be here and see how everything unfolds. “It has been a cool ride and exciting isn’t even the word. It’s very intriguing to see how everything moves forward.” WWE’s Road to WrestleMania Tour hits the UK this March, bringing RAW and SmackDown live to The O2 Arena.
