Fans made way to make space for the medical emergency crews to attend the fan, while large blankets were held up to protect the supporter’s privacy. This meant that kick-off was delayed while the fan was tended to with players initially remaining on the pitch and kicking balls between themselves. However the players of both teams were then led off the pitch around five minutes later and taken back to the dressing rooms. A message was then played to fans to thank them for their patience and understanding with the delay. Portsmouth are looking for a victory to strengthen their hopes of avoiding relegation. Meanwhile a victory for Middlesbrough would see them consolidate their spot in the top six.
