While Stone Cold came up short in his home state, he later admitted that both him and The Rock just wanted to go all-out to give fans in the arena something to remember. “Me and Rock went out there, tore the place down and tried to entertain those people as much as we could,” he said, recalling the night. “For a very special moment like that, we’re gonna bust our a** to make everybody have a good time. “Here in Texas – I mean, here in the heart of America – it meant a lot for me to be there, representing the great state of Texas. I know everybody was proud of the efforts we put forth.” Austin also admitted that he was initially ‘worried’ about returning to work and putting on a show too soon after the attacks, but that a call from McMahon convinced him it was the right thing to do.
