He has by far the best chase form with all his rivals struggling over fences recently and while they could improve to challenge this horse, they will need a miraculous improvement however. Park Annonciade fell on seasonal debut over fences, pulled up on chase debut back in May and fell last time out, so is very tough to back. Whereas, Hombre De Guerra improved on his hurdle form with a great second behind Caldwell Potter – who was the clear odds-on favourite, rated 39lbs higher but he also finished nicely ahead of other chasers as well as Imaginary Dragon who pulled up too. Choose A Copper This horse has decent hurdle form coming into a switch to chasing and better yet, won on chase debut at Hexham ahead of Dare To Shout. He placed sixth as favourite at Kelso in November, surprisingly below par considering the Lucinda Russell-trained seven-year-old won so well prior. Ought to go better this time around and has the value tag in this race as the third favourite. Kaituna River There’s just the five runners for this Class 4 handicap chase over 3m and the betting is wide open with almost all having negatives attached, whether it be inconsistent, no form over fences, or poor recent form. Laskalin has been on a long losing run spanning back to November 2022, and the closest he’s come recently to winning was in March when a close second behind Broken Halo, over 3m4f. Seefin made his chase debut at Uttoxeter just a couple of weeks ago, over a less preferred 2m4f but still finished 55 lengths off the winner to suggest he’d need a big improvement to go close. He’s only 9/2 despite that though with a return to 3m and a second go over fences attracting some support, but he’s not really gone well at all in each of his last three runs. Hystery Bere has a few pluses, going well at Huntingdon last time out but only has one win in nine chase starts – winless since his first chase success back in May 2023. Plus this will be his first attempt at anything over 2m4f with hurdle form amongst his chasing also not anything to shout about in the context of this race. Kaituna River went well on chase debut to come second to Theformismighty, albeit a ten length deficit, over 2m4f and will also have to find more to go well over close to 3m. There’s certainly improvement to be made as that was just his fifth race under rules, only having four hurdle races, including one on seasonal debut in November potentially to get a run in before making the switch to chasing. Finally, King’s Threshold has some good form over fences, winning a Class 4 handicap back in March, but also hasn’t really proven himself over and hasn’t gone too well when upped to Class 3 in his last two outings this season. It really opens it up for Kaituna River to progress as the most unexposed of the field with improvement much likelier on this horse over the experience of the others, most of whom are on a winless run.
