Chris Kirk is the defending champion following his 29-under-par win last January while Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith are also recent winners. Rory McIlroy will not be in action as he is focused on launching the new TGL league alongside Tiger Woods. World number one Scottie Scheffler is also missing through injury but the likes of Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg and Robert MacIntyre will be eyeing early-season glory. The world no.1 was forced to undergo surgery on his hand which has now ruled him out for three to four weeks. His manager, Blake Smith revealed: “On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. “Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. “He has been told that he should be back to 100 per cent in three to four weeks. “Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express.”
