England got off to a disappointing start in the Brendon McCullum white-ball era, with a heavy defeat in their first T20 clash on tour in India. They need a quick reaction if they are going to give themselves a chance of a series victory, as they now prepare for the second match, which takes place in Chennai on Saturday (13:30 GMT). Jos Buttler feels England will be ‘better for the run out’ and expects the tourists to be even more aggressive for the next match. talkSPORT BET welcome offer – Get £20 in free bets* India vs England T20 tips England to win @ 8/5 England Top Run Scorer – Phillip Salt @ 16/5 Tip 3 – India Top Wicket-Taker – Varun Chakravarthy @ 27/10 England to win @ 8/5 Setting India a below-par score to chase in Kolkata never gave England a chance in the first T20 and they have to learn quickly from their mistakes. McCullum will want to take his ‘Bazball’ style of play into the limited-overs format and that has been highlighted by his captain Buttler. The skipper said after the series opener – which they lost by seven wickets – that they will continue with their aggressive style and will back the players to ‘play their own game’. England can ill afford to fall 2-0 behind in the five-match series and that has put even more emphasis on Saturday’s clash. There have only been two T20 internationals at this ground, with the last encounter coming back in November 2018. India beat West Indies by six wickets in that clash but were beaten by New Zealand in the other match in 2012. Against the Windies, 182 was enough for India to take the victory, but it is likely to need closer to 200 this time to finish on top. England Top Run Scorer – Phillip Salt @ 16/5 Plenty of England’s lineup have experience of playing T20 cricket in India, having been part of the IPL over the last few years. One of those that has enjoyed plenty of success in the Indian Premier League is Phil Salt, who could be key to England’s chances of victory. The Welshman has played in the IPL for the last two seasons and finished inside the top 15 places in last year’s competition for runs scored. Salt smashed 435 runs in his 12 games for Kolkata Knight Riders, at an average of 39.54, including four half-centuries. The 28-year-old has a 35.67 average for England in T20 internationals, scoring three centuries and four half-centuries. A two-ball duck was the worst way for Salt to start this series, but the opener will be told to shoot from the hip in the second game. India Top Wicket-Taker – Varun Chakravarthy @ 27/10 The mystery spin of India’s Varun Chakravarthy caused England all sorts of problems in the first match and the tourists will have been looking at his deliveries in the last couple of days. The 33-year-old has played 14 international T20 matches, but Wednesday was the first time he had come up against England. Chakravarthy ended the game with three wickets, taking the scalps of Buttler, Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone, as he finished with figures of 3-23 from his four overs. The England batters struggled to work out the difference between his googlies and his leg breaks and they would have been assessing just what went wrong. Chakravarthy has taken multiple wickets in each of his last five T20 internationals, with 22 in 14 matches to date. His economy rate is currently 6.71 at international level and 7.56 in the IPL, where he has taken 83 wickets in 71 matches. talkSPORT BET welcome offer – Get £20 in free bets* *all odds correct at time of writing *18+ New customers only.
