NFL betting tips: Philadelphia Eagles v Los Angeles Rams preview and picks

The Los Angeles Rams are finishing strongly for a second successive season and that’s a mark of strong head coaching. Sean McVay led the Rams to a Super Bowl success three years ago and his team continue to make light of adversity. They lost home advantage in the Wild Card round when their game against the dangerous Minnesota Vikings was moved from SoFi Stadium to Arizona due to the California wildfires, but the team produced an impressive effort to win 27-9 against a team who had gone 14-3 in the regular season. Life doesn’t get any easier for the Rams as they now face a trip to the East Coast to take on NFC second seeds the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round on Sunday, but they came up only one point short of beating the Detroit Lions on the road in last year’s playoffs and are not likely to go down easily. The Eagles had a fairly routine 22-10 Wild Card victory over a disappointing Green Bay Packers side, but it came at a cost as linebacker Nakobe Dean suffered a season-ending knee injury.  Nick Sirianni’s team won eight of their nine home games in the regular season and notably beat the Rams 37-20 on the road in Week 12, making it eight wins in their last nine clashes. We’ve prepared a three-leg bet builder selection for the game that would pay out at odds of 10/1, if successful. McVay’s team have grown stronger as the season has gone on and they have never looked more impressive than they did in Monday’s dominant win over the Vikings. The Rams’ defence took time to get their act together and they conceded 24 or more points in all five games before their bye. They have turned that unit into a strength now, though, with rookie Jared Verse leading the way as they have conceded no more than nine points in four of their last five games. The exception was the Week 18 loss to Seattle when they rested their starters and another strong defensive performance makes the Rams an attractive bet getting a big handicap start. The Rams have been on an upward trajectory since their loss to the Eagles and should give a much better account of themselves this time. Goedert can find the end zone Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert powered into the end zone against the Packers for his third touchdown in his last six games and he looks a likely candidate to get through the solid Rams defence, if anyone can. Goedert accounted for 47 of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ poor tally of 131 passing yards against the Packers and should prove a useful outlet for the QB against the Rams’ pass-rush. The Rams have been susceptible against tight ends in recent games, with TJ Hockenson of the Vikings, Noah Fant of the Seahawks and Trey McBride of the Cardinals all showing up well on the stat sheet and Goedert could add to his TD tally. Nacua out to impress The Rams eased past the Vikings despite none of their offensive stars having a particularly big night, so leading receiver Puka Nacua will be out to impress against the Eagles. Tight end Tyler Higbee topped the team’s receiving yards list with a modest 58, while Nacua had to be content with just 44, despite being targeted nine times by quarterback Matthew Stafford. Nacua still had one reception of 27 yards, though, and can be backed to make at least one play of 25 or more yards against the Eagles. He has topped that mark in each of his last four appearances. Rams growing stronger as season goes on

The Rams’ season looked to be lost as they made a 1-4 start to the year, but they had some pretty reasonable excuses to be slow out of the blocks, as star receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, plus tight end Tyler Higbee all suffered early injuries.

Goedert can find the end zone

Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert powered into the end zone against the Packers for his third touchdown in his last six games and he looks a likely candidate to get through the solid Rams defence, if anyone can.

Nacua out to impress

The Rams eased past the Vikings despite none of their offensive stars having a particularly big night, so leading receiver Puka Nacua will be out to impress against the Eagles.
