NFL betting tips: Buffalo Bills vs Baltimore Ravens preview and picks
The NFL’s Divisional playoffs are set to come to a dramatic conclusion with a hotly anticipated clash between AFC heavyweights the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens. The teams will both consider themselves capable of seizing the AFC crown dominated by the Kansas City Chiefs in recent seasons, but first they have to face each other at Highmark Stadium on Sunday night. Neither team had any trouble winning their Wild Card games with the second-seeded Bills following a 13-4 regular-season campaign by crushing the Denver Broncos 31-7 at this venue, while the Ravens, seeded third after going 12-5, saw off their AFC North rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-14 at M&T Bank Stadium. There is little between the teams in the odds and freezing conditions could add to the atmosphere as two talented teams go head to head in a huge fixture. The teams met in Week 4 of the regular season when the Ravens had a clear upper hand and ran out 35-10 winners, but this time around the Bills have home advantage and they remain unbeaten in nine contests in front of their own fans this season. We’ve put together a three-leg bet builder suggestion for the crucial playoff game which pays out at 29/4 if successful. John Harbaugh’s side are marginal favourites for good reason, even though the Bills have not yet lost at home this season. The addition of veteran running back Derrick Henry has made the Ravens a fearsome offence and the crisp conditions should suit his powerful approach down to the ground. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is also a threat with his legs and is in better health for the playoff run this time than he has been in previous seasons. The Bills have lost only two of their last 13 games and made the most of home advantage last week, but their heavy defeat in their first meeting with the Ravens is hard to ignore. Henry ran loose for 199 yards that day and he could be the key man for a Baltimore team who have scored at least 30 points in their last three road games. Cook may not have the right recipe this week Running back James Cook has been a real star for the Bills this season with 1,009 rushing yards in the regular season and he impressed again last week with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Broncos. It was a different story when he faced the Ravens, though, as Cook had only 39 rushing yards and got just nine carries as the Bills concentrated on their passing game after falling behind. The Ravens led the league in defensive rushing yards allowed this season and could bottle up Cook again, forcing QB Josh Allen to try to beat them with his arm. Shakir offers hope for home team Allen shares the ball around between his receivers with eight Bills having at least two receiving touchdowns this season but none having more than five. A pair of unlikely suspects had TD catches against the Broncos with Curtis Samuel and running back Ty Johnson on the scoresheet and it could be Khalil Shakir’s turn to get back in the end zone this week. Shakir has been the team’s leading receiver this season with 821 receiving yards and scored back-to-back TDs in recent road games against tough opponents in the Rams and Lions. He caught all six of his passes for 61 yards against the Broncos, which should encourage Allen to look his way this week.
