A Minnesota mom has avoided a prison sentence after being convicted of sexually abusing two 15-year-old boys at a hotel last year.

The Minnesota Star Tribune reported Monday that Allison Schardin, 39, was sentenced to two weekends in jail and 200 hours of community service for the crimes, which took place last January at a hotel in Roseville, Minn. The Star Tribune reports that the mother of two met a group of 15-year-old hockey players from Colorado in a hotel hot tub and later abused two of them in their room.

Prosecutors said during Schardin’s trial that she was also staying at the hotel with her husband and two children for an alleged “staycation” the night of the abuse, the paper reported.

The Star Tribune, CBS News and the Pioneer Press previously reported that, while in the hot tub, Schardin had confided with the boys that she was having marital problems. She later sent a Snapchat message to one of the boys, who were in town for a hockey tournament, saying she got into a fight with her husband and wanted to stay in their room, where she later arrived and began discussing sex.

When she was arrested on Feb. 1, 2024, Schardin admitted to having sexual contact with the boys, the outlets reported. After the encounter at the hotel, Schardin also allegedly showed up at one of the boys’ hockey games and texted them when they returned home to Colorado, according to the Pioneer Press.

On Monday, the Star Tribune reported that prosecutors asked the court to “treat the defendant’s behavior as being no less serious than if the defendant were a man and the victims were girls.”

“If the genders were reversed, there are few who would believe that leniency is appropriate,” prosecutors told the court, according to the newspaper.

The prosecutors also said the boys “lost friends, and they have had to endure whispers and harmful comments from others, as if they were the perpetrators,” as a result of Schardin’s assault, according to the Tribune.

“Both victims were initially suspended from their hockey team, though they were later reinstated after they explained what happened,” the prosecutors reportedly said. “That victory was short-lived, however, as team officials then decided to cancel the rest of the season.”

As part of her sentencing, the Tribune reports that Schardin must receive mental health treatment and be registered as a sex offender for the next 10 years.
