Mindy Kaling Glitters in Gold at the “Running Point” Premiere

The comedy creator stepped out for the red carpet event alongside her costars

Mindy Kaling came to dazzle! 

The comedy creator hit the red carpet at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles for the premiere of Running Point, a 10-episode series that stars Kate Hudson as the unexpected heir to her family’s Los Angeles basketball franchise after a scandal forces her brother, played by Justin Theroux, out.  

For the event, held on Thursday, Feb. 13, Kaling, 45, wore a form-fitting gold gown with sequins and embellishments, with gold leaf appliqués at the gown's sheath skirt. She kept her accessories to a minimum — highlighting the gown's many elaborate details — and wore three silver rings.

Kaling's look was completed with gold and bronze eyeshadow, a brown glossy lip and rosy pink blush. She wore her long black hair in very loose waves that were swept behind her back.

You can always count on Kaling to make a glam entrance for a red carpet event. At last year's Met Gala, Kaling's Gaurav Gupta gown was so voluminous it required handlers to help the actress up the steps at the Met Museum.

Despite its colossal size, the look managed to exude an ethereal aura with its floaty, sheer layers and curved draping details on the sweetheart-neckline bodice. The gown's fabric had subtle silver accents here and there for a touch of sparkle.

To keep the spotlight on her show-stopping dress, Kaling opted for understated glam, with the exception of a smokey eye, and had her short bob styled in soft curls at the ends.

With leading women Hudson and Brenda Song, Running Point reflects Kaling’s penchant for projects featuring strong female characters, which she explains in connection to her book choices for her Amazon Publishing Imprint, Mindy’s Book Studio, that launched in 2022.  

“I really like ambitious women, underestimated women, women with secrets,” she told PEOPLE earlier this month. “Those with big personalities. I'm not involved in a lot of things with demure female leads. That's not my vibe, and it's my taste in books, too.”

Female leads with “big personalities” are showcased in her past TV shows Champions, Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Kaling’s fellow Running Point creators include Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. Hudson, Theroux and Song star in the series along with Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis and Max Greenfield.

Running Point premieres Feb. 27 on Netflix.
