‘I don’t have any doubt about that’ – Bill Belichick makes it clear how he will run a college program if he lands the UNC job
Bill Belichick knows exactly how he will run North Carolina’s football program if he lands their head coaching job. To no surprise, it will be exactly how he ran the NFL’s most successful dynasty. Belichick last coached for the New England Patriots in 2023Getty Images Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, the six-time Super Bowl winning head coach mapped out his vision, if he were to land in Chapel Hill. “Let me put this in capital letters,” Belichick said. “If, I-F, if I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL, for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL. “It would be a professional program: training, nutrition, scheme, coaching, techniques that would transfer to the NFL. “It would be an NFL program at the college level and an education that would get the players ready for their career after football, whether that was the end of their college career or at the end of their pro career, it would be geared toward developing the player, time management, discipline, structure, and all that.” In today’s landscape of college athletics, in the era of NIL and the transfer portal, running a college football program is more like the NFL than it has ever been. The student-athletes are young professionals, so it makes sense as to why the University of North Carolina is interested in Belichick’s services. “There would be life skills, regardless of whether they’re in the NFL or somewhere in business,” Belichick continued. “I feel very confident that I have the contacts in the National Football League to pave the way for those players that would have the ability to have the opportunity to compete in National Football League. “Whether good enough or not, I don’t know, but they would be ready for it. I don’t have any doubt about that. Belichick recently entered a relationship with 24-year-old Jordon HudsonGetty “That would be the first comment that I would make relative to the structure of the program.” What better way to pitch young athletes to want to come to your program, then by flexing six Super Bowl rings. You think that guy knows what it takes to play in the NFL? Of course he does. It has been reported that North Carolina officials have had multiple interviews with Belichick and both sides are extremely serious. He ended his McAfee appearance with a ‘we’ll see’ when asked if he will actually be on the sideline in Carolina blue next season. It would be quite the curveball if Belichick were to pursue this path to the college level, as most assumed he would be heavily sought out by NFL clubs looking for a new head coach. However, after he departed New England after the 2023 season, he didn’t receive as much interest as he would have hoped, hence the year off of coaching and diving into the media world. All signs point to Belichick returning to the sidelines in 2025. The only question is, will it be for at the NFL or college level?
