How far should you go for love?

That's the complicated question at the center of The Uproar, Karim Dimechkie's upcoming novel, out June 17, 2025 from Little, Brown and Company.

Dimechkie's book focuses on the relationship between Sharif, a White social worker at a nonprofit in Brooklyn, and his wife, Adjoua, a progressive Black novelist, according to its synopsis. "When Emmanuel agrees to take the dog, it is only a momentary relief. What begins as a dispute between the young couple and Emmanuel's teenage son soon draws both families into a maelstrom of unpredictable conflict," the synopsis shares.

"At its heart, The Uproar is a love story that grapples with hard questions about marriage, race, immigration and the belief that all lives are equal," Dimechkie tells PEOPLE.

"It’s about good people from diverse backgrounds whose core morals are tested," he adds. "I explore that line between doing what’s right and doing what’s best for ourselves and our families."
