Gervonta Davis furiously confronts heckler from rival’s team and proposes huge bet
Gervonta Davis furiously proposed a bet to a heckler in the crowd at his press conference to face Lamont Roach. Davis is set to return to the ring in a rescheduled clash with title challenger Roach on March 1, with the bout delayed from its original planned date this month. Esther Lin/ PBCDavis furiously stood up and confronted a heckler[/caption] The pair were brought together for the first time at a heated and tense launch press conference in Brooklyn, New York. And Davis became agitated after being heckled by the crowd, from what is believed to be a member of his rival’s entourage. ‘Tank’ quickly rose to his feet and turned attention to the heckler. He shouted: “How much do you want to bet? Do you want to bet? “Because I came up here alone. How much do you want to bet? Let’s call it out. “100? It’s a bet. Let’s make it then it’s a bet.” It is unclear if $100 or $100,000, but the heckler appeared to agree to the surprise wager. The heckler is confident that Roach will hand Davis his first professional defeat and break his unbeaten streak. It was an eventful conference, where the American superstar also remarkably claimed he would retire by the end of 2025. Roach has a big opportunity to pull off a remarkable upset, but is a huge underdog in his second ever world title challenge. Esther Lin/ PBCA member of Roach’s team locked in a bet with Davis[/caption] But Davis has picked the exact round he plans to end the contest, and wants to hand his rival a lesson. He said: “I like to show people that they aren’t who they say they are. I like to prove it to the people they come with. “My first time winning the title, the whole building doubted me. Lamont’s got skills. Even at a smaller weight class. “He’s one of the guys who I came up with in the sport of boxing, and he’s still doing well. “He’s definitely a top opponent and everyone will see that on March 1. We’ll have to test his chin. “He might think my opponents don’t have chins, but we’ll definitely test it. I’m gonna chop, chop, bob and weave and end it in the ninth round.” Esther Lin/ PBCDavis will be in for a cash injection if he beats Roach[/caption] Roach is supremely confident nonetheless, and believes his underdog tag is simply another motivation to dethrone Davis. He added: “I shouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe I’m gonna win. I’ve hurt everybody that I’ve been in the ring with and this won’t be any different. “This is a hell of an opportunity and we’re gonna conquer it. Everyone knows what I’m coming to do. “And if you don’t, you’ll be surprised. I’m gonna show you what happens when two dogs go in the ring together. “I don’t care about being the underdog or being the favourite. Either way, I’m gonna win.”
