Eric Stonestreet and His Fiancée Want Their Wedding to be One of Their New Memories in Dream House (Exclusive) 

The Emmy winner told PEOPLE that his and fiancée Lindsay Schweitzer's future wedding was at the 'top of the list of things that [they] imagined happening' in their new home

Eric Stonestreet and his fiancée Lindsay Schweitzer already have their wedding venue — they’re just waiting for the construction to conclude!

Stonestreet, 53, said that he and Schweitzer still want to get married in their dream home, but they’re still waiting for the Kansas City, Kans. property to be wedding-ready. The Modern Family star recently spoke to PEOPLE about his partnership with Kidde Smart Smoke and Combination Alarms (Smoke + CO) with Ring. During the conversation, he confirmed that he and Schweitzer, 48, are “not in a hurry” to host their wedding because they are “building this house together.” 

“We talk about [the wedding] all the time, of how we would do it, and where we would sit, and how Sofía [Vergara] [would be] dancing out on our lawn,” he said of his Modern Family costar. “Whatever it is, we think about it all the time.”

“Right from the beginning of when we started building the house, [the wedding] was like, right at the top of the list of things that we imagined happening here,” he said. 

“We're doing this kind of late in life, building this house. We immediately started thinking of all the memories we're going to have there with the boys and family. And, of course, the wedding being one of the things.”

“We definitely want to have a celebration with all of our friends,” the Emmy winner said. “But it was, ‘We're going to get married.’ And then it was like, ‘Oh, my God, we got this land. Let's build a house. Do you want a wedding or a house? Can we do both at one time?’ And she being as great as she is, she's like, ‘I'd rather build a house with you.’ And I'm like, ‘Me too.’” 

Stonestreet continued: “When we get to the end of that, we want to take a breath.” 

Along with envisioning Vergara dancing on their lawn during the future wedding, Stonestreet revealed he and Schweitzer ensured there would be spaces for guests to stay — including Vergara and their Modern Family costars. 

“We wanted to create spaces that we could invite Jesse Tyler Ferguson home. We wanted to create spaces where, if Sofía is coming through Kansas City, that we have a great place for her.”

Stonestreet proposed to Schweitzer in 2021 after the pair dated for over five years. The special moment was caught on camera, and Stonestreet explained to PEOPLE: “I tricked her into thinking that a company wanted to do a brand partnership with both of us.” 

“That would get her to make her do her hair and makeup and make her feel pretty — and as gorgeous as she naturally is,” he said. “Then I had the camera on her. She had no idea it was coming, and that was the plan.”

Shortly after Stonestreet proposed, he told PEOPLE in 2021 that he "wasn't going to find a better partner in life than Lindsay."

"So it just made the most sense. And I'd taken my sweet old time." Adding, "Everybody else — let me put it this way — that knows Lindsay was like, 'What are you waiting for?' So, it was time," he added.
