Introduced to help players take on newfangled Astroturf surfaces, the original Astro Grabber enjoyed a brief spell of popularity among the gridiron greats of the day. (It has the distinction of being the first Nike shoe to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated—in 1974 courtesy of USC star Anthony Davis.)But the Grabber’s professional heyday had nothing on the sensation it caused last year when Bode Aujla revived the silhouette in a sleek, timeless package. “I wanted to create something where you could take a picture of it and not really know when it’s from,” the designer told GQ at the time. Chase’s runway moment is just the latest example of pro ballers embracing the kicks. In fact, the first person to rock the Bode Recs in the tunnel last year was the receiver’s defensive nemesis: Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith.Bode and Nike were coy on official details, but expect the new colorways to drop this spring.
