XO, Kitty is back — meaning there's soon to be more love, drama and chaos at KISS!
Season 1 of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before spin-off followed Lara Jean's little sister Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) as she set off to boarding school in South Korea — the same one her late mother attended — and reunited with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae (Minyeong Choi). Although she thought it would kick off the happily-ever-after dream she envisioned for her and Dae, Kitty's journey was instead marked by a drama-filled semester that taught her about love and self-discovery.
The second chapter of the Netflix series will premiere on Jan. 16, 2025, almost two years after the dramatic cliffhanger that saw Kitty head back to America for good after being expelled from KISS — and learning that her love triangle was more complicated than she thought.
On Dec. 17, Netflix dropped the first trailer for season 2, revealing a special surprise for fans of the To All the Boys universe: Noah Centineo is reprising his role as Peter Kavinsky, Lara Jean's boyfriend.
That month, the actor spoke to Tudum about what it was like reuniting with his former costar, saying, “Working with Anna again was amazing."
“She’s so wonderfully talented, and her work ethic shows in every scene," Centineo added. "Stepping back into the To All the Boys universe was a true joy, and I hope our incredible audience enjoys seeing Peter again as much as I did.”
From returning cast members to the release date, here's everything to know about XO, Kitty season 2.
How did season 1 of XO, Kitty leave off?
The XO, Kitty season 1 finale began with Kitty confessing to her boyfriend Dae that she had developed feelings for Yuri (Gia Kim), leading to an emotional conversation on the phone with her dad where she confronted her confusing feelings.
Soon after, Kitty learned that her place at KISS was in jeopardy after being caught secretly living in the boys’ dorms. Despite passing her classes and explaining that she only broke the rules to escape her problematic roommate, her conduct violation meant she wouldn’t be invited back to KISS for the next school year — at least for now.
Kitty headed to the airport to fly home, surprised to see that Dae had followed her to say goodbye, leading to a heartfelt exchange between the former couple. She assured him she had no regrets about their relationship, and Dae confessed that Kitty would always be his first love, just as he was hers. They shared a romantic goodbye kiss that signified the end of their chapter.
Before boarding, Kitty ran into Yuri and saw it as a sign to confess her feelings. However, Yuri's girlfriend Juliana (Regan Aliyah) suddenly appeared, leaving Kitty unable to share how she felt. Feeling bad for Kitty, Yuri called her mother, Principal Lim (Yunjim Kim), in an effort to convince her not to expel her friend.
The final bombshell came when Kitty boards the plane to find Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) — who was headed to Los Angeles to visit his mother — sitting next to her. After Kitty explained that her relationship with Dae was over, Min Ho dropped an unexpected confession: he had fallen in love with her. The season ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with Kitty processing her unresolved feelings for Yuri while facing Min Ho’s romantic declaration, complicating the fate of her love life even further.
In May 2023, Cathcart reflected on her character's growth in season 1, telling PEOPLE she was "very proud of" the unexpected romantic storyline that developed between Kitty and Yuri, especially given that she came to school thinking she had it all figured out.
"She's learning to be honest with herself and be honest with the people around her," the actress said. "Which is something that's very difficult to do in many situations, at many stages of your life — but especially while you're growing up, and when you're in high school, and when there's so many different pressures and different things that are overwhelming."
She added that part of what made Kitty's journey "real" was that she still has a lot to learn about herself.
"By the end of it, she doesn't have an answer, like, 'Oh, this makes sense to me. I like Yuri, and it means this, or this label feels right with me,' " Cathcart said, adding that Kitty is "learning to be okay" with the uncertainty.
What will XO, Kitty season 2 be about?
Season 2 will follow Kitty as she returns to South Korea for another semester at KISS, this time as a single woman. She is "ready for a fresh start: no more meddling, no more drama," though she is open to "some casual dating — emphasis on casual," per the official synopsis.
However, she'll have to deal with more than her complex love life when she discovers a letter from her late mother that sets her on a "wild journey."
"As secrets unravel and bonds are tested, Kitty will learn that life, family and love are more complicated than she ever imagined," the synopsis reads.
