In a now-viral post on Reddit, one woman shared how a fight with her sister led to a bigger rift between them.
In the post, the woman writes how her sister is due with a girl in January, so the siblings had been planning a baby shower for early December. During the planning, the woman says that her sister mentioned wanting to use their mother's maiden name, Rafferty, as her daughter's name. While the woman was initially thrown off by the "unique name," she eventually came around to the idea, she writes.
However, things took a turn this week after she texted her sister to confirm the name for the custom items ordered ASAP so they would arrive in time for the shower. In response, her sister informed her that they were going with an alternative spelling of Rafferty.

"I texted back, 'An alternative spelling... of our mother's maiden name?' " she writes in the post. "My sister wants to spell it 'Raefarty.' So I sent back a bunch of laughing emojis, and she asked, 'What's so funny?' "
"I tried to explain that no one will pronounce it as Rafferty, and she'll probably get plenty of mispronunciations," she adds. "She told me I was being ridiculous. I texted back, 'My poor niece, Little Miss Farty Rae.' "
After voicing her concerns to her sister, the woman says she was uninvited to the shower. Additionally, her mom also told her that her sister doesn't want her as the baby's godmother anymore.
"But, like, Raefarty is really bad, isn't it? Someone needs to tell her, right?," she continues.

Since sharing on Reddit, the woman's post has amassed more than 31,000 likes and 4,200 comments. Many of the comments agree with her about the spelling of the name.
"That is beyonddd a tragedeigh, someone needed to tell her. That poor kid is going to get picked on like nobodys business," one user wrote.
"Rafferty as a first name is bad enough. But Raefarty sounds like a parody musician who raps exclusively about fecal matter, whether solid liquid or gas," another user added.
Someone else commented, "That child will get mercilessly bullied for having fart in her name. Good on you for telling her, hopefully it will wake her up to the reality that that is an awful awful name for a school-aged child. You should send her a screenshot of the responses from here. Save that poor baby."
