But with the elite players, they are also capable of pulling off an incredible round and we have seen some unbelievable scores down the years.

Here, talkSPORT.com takes a look at the lowest and highest scores ever in golf…

The lowest score ever in golf

The lowest-ever professional score was carded by Jim Furyk in 2016.

At the Travelers Championship, Furyk scored 58 on a par 70 course to pull off what still is the lowest score in history of the PGA Tour

He managed ten birdies and one eagle to finish 12-under after one round.

Following his achievement, Kim Seong-hyeon scored 58 on the Japan Golf Tour in 2021 while Ryo Ishikawa also did so on the same tour in 2010.

Bryson DeChambeau also carded a stunning 58 on the LIV Golf tour at The Greenbrier in August 2023.

On the DP World Tour, Oliver Fisher scored a 59 at the 2018 Portugal Masters.

Meanwhile, the lowest score in a men’s major was 62 from Branden Grace at The Open Championship in 2017 but at the PGA Championship at Valhalla this year, both Shane Lowry and Xander Schauffele equalled that score.

In the women’s professional game, Annika Sorenstam posted a 59 in the Standard Register PING tournament on the 2001 LPGA Tour.

The highest score ever in golf

The highest-ever score in professional golf is slightly harder to confirm but is said to have been carded by Mike Reasor in 1974.

He managed to achieve the (unofficially) two worst cards ever in the sport at the Tallahassee Open.

Reasor finished with a score of 123 on Saturday at the tournament before following it up with a 114 on Sunday.

It wasn’t down to the American’s ability though, he was allegedly actually playing with only one arm!

Back in the 70s, players who made the cut and completed all four rounds at a PGA event would qualify for the following tournament and each star would make that their main aim.

Reasor managed to achieve that but after playing his second round, he apparently dislocated his shoulder, fractured two of his ribs and injured his knee ligaments in an accident.

It meant he played with one arm and struggled through the remainder of the event to make sure he completed it to qualify.

So he may hold the record for the highest-ever round in golf history, but he sure has an unbelievable story to go along with it!
