Visit Here: Guardian Art Center
From ancient city walls, we turn back to visual art in its many forms at the… Guardian Art Center (嘉德艺术中心 Jiādé Yìshù Zhōngxīn) Built to house China’s oldest auction house, the monolith of a building designed by Berlin architecture firm Büro Ole Scheeren stands at the juncture of Wangfujing and Wusi Dajie, sharing space with the Puxian Hotel and Spa. Inside one can find multiple exhibition halls plus a café that changes its theme based on certain exhibitions and a shop with an extensive selection of art books. Why Visit? If not for the design of the building alone, then for the mishmash of both Chinese and foreign art on display, with exhibitions rotating between both ancient and contemporary art on a regular basis. Plus, if you can find it, there’s an outdoor terrace that offers views of Jingshan Park to the south. The Details Entry to the Center is free, but to access exhibitions you’ll need to purchase a ticket on site or via their ticketing WeChat mini program (access it through the QR code below or from the Center’s website).
