He is lucky the player didn’t take him out,” one person said. “That’s one way to make your team not respect you anymore,” another wrote. “No one wants to play for a coach that acts like that,” a third concluded. Soon after the game, ULM confirmed the will be taking disciplinary action against Blankenship. “In Saturday’s game at Marshall, assistant coach Cameron Blankenship made physical contact with a ULM student-athlete on the sideline,” the school said in a statement. “This behavior is unacceptable and not how ULM football conducts business. “There will be disciplinary action taken against the assistant coach. Because this is a personnel matter, the discipline will be handled internally.” While Blankenship is in his first season with ULM, he was previously New Mexico’s offensive line coach in 2023. Before that, he was at UAB as assistant strength coach from 2016 to 2021, before becoming the program’s offensive line coach in 2022. Saturday’s loss dropped Blankenship and ULM to 5-3 this season. Hutchinson, who was on the receiving end of Blankenship’s sideline rage, is in his first year seeing game action after redshirting in 2022 and seeing no playing time as a freshman last year. The team have a chance to bounce back against Texas State next Saturday.
