Tyson Fury admits huge £10 million regret after declining forfeit for Oleksandr Usyk fight
Tyson Fury has acknowledged a major regret he has over the first Oleksandr Usyk fight. The former heavyweight world champion admitted that he may have been out of line when he promised to place a staggering £10 million bet on himself ahead of his upcoming showdown with Oleksandr Usyk. The original fight was penned for February, but the clash was moved to May after Fury picked up a cut during sparring which he needed to wait to heal. The bout in May ended in defeat on points for the previously undefeated Fury, with Usyk claiming the victory and his opponent praising the Ukrainian’s performance. Fury said he would have ideally preferred more time to prepare for their fight in May, but in order to avoid a £10million fine for another delay, he went ahead with the fight which he eventually lost. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said that it had been a ‘lot easier’ this time around in comparison to May’s fight. “I’ve done lots of sparring and I’ve been able to train properly, whereas before it’s no secret that I didn’t do a lot of sparring, hence I had a massive bounty on my cut eye. “Thinking sensible, maybe I would have pushed it back a little bit and cost myself £10m. “It doesn’t really matter because we’re here now and I’m going to do the job on Saturday night.” Victory for either man would crown them the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades. Fury, known for his confident and brash personality, also admitted that he hasn’t needed to ‘process’ the defeat to Usyk last time around. “I haven’t processed it at all.
