A driver has escaped a near-fatal incident after a block of ice shattered his windshield while driving in Pennsylvania.
Truck driver Josh Keating was traveling eastbound on Interstate 78 heading to Allentown on his way to see a client following a snowstorm when the incident occurred on Monday, Feb. 17, ABC 6 Action News reported.
Dashcam footage obtained by the outlet shows the ice block crashing through the windshield of Keating’s vehicle, narrowly missing him while he was driving. A few moments later, he is seen pulling over to the side of the road.
Keating said the incident happened in “a split second," with the ice coming in from the opposite direction as it collided with his vehicle.
“Next thing I know, out of nowhere, I saw a split second, and then all I heard was a crash and bang, and my windshield came in,” he told the New York Post.
Keating recalled of the incident to FOX Weather, “I kind of blacked out there. My adrenaline was through the roof.” He said he managed to escape with just a few “cuts and bruises” and shared that he was grateful to have not experienced worse injuries.
"I had an angel with me," Keating told ABC 7 New York. "The only thing I got was cuts and bruises basically on my hands because when it came through, I put my hand up to kind of catch the glass."
Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, per FOX Weather.

The official rules of the road for the state of Pennsylvania states that drivers “must make reasonable efforts to remove accumulated ice or snow from vehicles within 24 hours after a snow or ice event.”
Failure to do so can result in drivers paying a fine of $50 for each offense, according to regulations.
Following the incident, Keating has spoken out about the dangers of leaving roads unclear of snow and ice and has urged drivers to follow road safety regulations.
“I’ve been telling people to just take that extra time, that extra few minutes, and make sure to clean off their vehicles,” he told the NYP. “Because in the end, everybody’s just getting from Point A to Point B and then back home again.”
“This will help people like me and everybody else just get back home safely.”
