Transfer notebook: Alejandro Garnacho makes major decision, new Marcus Rashford twist, Matheus Cunha contract saga explained

Alejandro Garnacho is reluctantly coming around to the idea of leaving Manchester United this month. Sources close to the mercurial Argentine have told talkSPORT he has major doubts about his role in Ruben Amorim‘s 3-4-2-1 system. GettyGarnacho is beginning to consider leaving Old Trafford in January[/caption] Those concerns first emerged after being brutally axed for the Manchester derby in December. As previously reported by talkSPORT, Manchester United are not actively looking to sell Garnacho, but his worries over his role at Old Trafford have opened the door to a possible January exit. Antonio Conte’s Napoli are pushing hardest to prise Garnacho away and have tabled at least two bids for the £70million-rated wide-man. Chelsea have also expressed their interest in the 20-year-old, who as an academy product would represent pure profit on the balance sheet for United. If he stays, Amorim would continue to use Garnacho and has no issues with his character or attitude in training.  United’s unwanted man Manchester United are less optimistic of finding a taker for banished Marcus Rashford. United are keen to offload Rashford in this transfer window and are willing to accept a loan deal with no option or obligation to buy. Several top European clubs including Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have spoken with Rashford’s advisors, while West Ham and Tottenham have also asked to be kept informed on the situation. However, the England international’s wages – in excess of £325,000 with bonuses and image rights – are proving a major obstacle. Rashford remaining at the club would be potentially problematic for Amorim, with the United manager refusing to call up the former superstar to his first-team squad. Rashford has struggled for consistency from his 15 Premier League games this term Wolves’ Cunha contract frustration Wolves boss Vitor Pereira’s public dressing down of star man Matheus Cunha after Monday’s defeat to Chelsea is likely to be born out of frustration over his ongoing contract wrangle. Earlier this month, Wolves were optimistic Cunha would put pen to paper on a new long-term deal after reaching a verbal agreement with their talisman. However, talkSPORT has been told negotiations have stalled. It is understood the Brazilian wants a relegation release clause included in the agreement. The Wolves hierarchy have assured Cunha he would be sold without the need for a clause in the event they drop out of the Premier League as they could not afford to keep him. It remains to be seen if that promise will be enough to convince Cunha to sign on the dotted line. Saints wanted to appoint their former assistant manager when they fired Russell Martin last month, but were unwilling to pay the £5m clause in full to release him from his role as Sheffield Wednesday manager. However, relations between Rohl and controversial Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri have since deteriorated with the German wanting the hefty release clause to be reduced. Saints hired Croatian Ivan Juric instead of Rohl, but he is yet to win a Premier League game. It is believed there is a break clause in Juric’s contract that can be activated at the end of the season if, as seems inevitable, the south coast side go down. Southampton sit rock-bottom of the Premier League on six points, after just one win and three draws from 22 games this season. They are 11 points from safety at the time of writing.
