The mood is much brighter at St James’ Park. A run of four consecutive victories has lifted Newcastle up the table. Eddie Howe’s charges have not even conceded a goal in that winning streak, the latest instalment of which was a 2-0 triumph over Manchester United on Monday night.

Newcastle had a tough summer and it took a while for them to get going this season, but some of their key players are stepping up. Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon look electric up top, while Sandro Tonali is thriving as a deep-lying midfielder. All of a sudden Newcastle look like one of the best teams in the division.

The problem is at the other end of the field. Liverpool breached their frail backline six times in their recent meeting in north London.

Newcastle are a smart side under Howe. They prefer a controlled approach to the gung-ho game plan routinely employed by Tottenham.

As such, the Magpies can extend their winning run to five games this weekend.
