The Red Devils have an option to extend for 12 months, but want to lock down something more long term, with the versatile youngster bound to rise in value and attract interest from clubs across Europe. Discussing the 22-year-old on talkSPORT’s Inside Devils, Crook was asked if fans are witnessing the start of a massive Man United career for him. “I think we are,” he said. “We started to witness that at the end of last season with that dramatic goal he scored against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final. You could see what it meant to him. “I interviewed him before the cup final, I found him a very humble, a very down to earth, a very dedicated, professional. “I thought then that maybe, this is a guy that United can build the team around. “We know that there are talks underway about a new contract. In the Premier League, he has more assists than Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Heung-min Son, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden. “It makes it even more baffling when you see the type of performances he’s been producing, that Erik ten Hag refused to use him towards the end of his tenure,” Crook continued. “He picked [Noussair] Mazraoui in the no. 10 role instead. He’s obviously playing a different role under Ruben Amorim as one of those attacking wing backs. “But he’s such a good professional, such a good athlete, that he can basically play anywhere.”
