“The Traitors’” Chanel Ayan Didn’t Know “Survivor” Was a Show, Thought Castmates Battled Illnesses and Drought

Chanel Ayan admits she wasn't familiar with her castmates on season 3 of The Traitors and the previous reality TV shows they came from.
The Real Housewives of Dubai star recently confessed on the Tuesday, Jan. 21 episode of the Gabbing With Gib that she only knew her fellow Bravo stars on the current season of the Peacock competition series.
The "Bravolebrities" competing in Season 3 included Summer House star Ciara Miller, Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval, and fellow Housewives Dorinda Medley, Robyn Dixon and Dolores Catania.
“I only knew people from the Bravo world. I didn’t know the other people because they were all like, ‘I am a Survivor [alum],'” Ayan, 46, told podcast host Gibson Johns. “I personally thought they survived things like me.”
The Kenya-born model believed her Traitors costars who appeared on Survivor, Tony Vlachos, Jeremy Collins, Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano and Carolyn Wiger lived through life-or-death situations.
"Female genital mutilation... I've survived malaria, typhoid, ebola and a drought. Like everything. So I was like, ‘What have you survived?'” Ayan explained to Johns. “Then Derrick [Levasseur] is like, ‘I lost 40 pounds.'” [Editors note: Lavasseur appeared on Big Brother, so Ayan may have mixed up names.]
Ayan also commented that she didn’t understand the game, even after she was “murdered” and eliminated from the show in episode 3.
“Even when I died, I still didn’t understand them. I left and died and that is when I realized there’s a TV show called Survivor.” She clarified that they “don’t watch reality shows in Dubai.”
She also remarked how the other contestants, some of whom came from Big Brother and Survivor, “are all about the game.”
Ayan described herself and her fellow housewives, as "all about enjoying life."
"Like for me, I wasn’t thinking about money. I was just there. I wanted to be cute, be funny and try the game,” she explained.
While the reality star wasn’t on the show for long, she continued to deliver commentary on the game.
“So these bitches are just killing Housewives. I just figured that out. Everybody is jealous of a Housewife," she said of her unexpected exit on Peacock’s online after-show.
“My son said, ‘Mom, you are the worst liar ever. If you are not going to be the first person killed then I would be proud of you.’ Guess what? Mommy was the third person murdered,” she said during the after-show. (Editors note: She was the second person murdered, behind Medley.)
The TV personality didn’t “have a strategy.”
“I am a beauty bitch, I am not a thinking bitch,” she declared. “I think I was killed because I am fabulous.”
