The Sentry 2025 golf betting preview In a normal world, the PGA Tour’s 2025 season would begin with its greatest star – Scottie Scheffler – thrashing balls on the stunning fairways of Kapalua in Hawaii. But Scheffler doesn’t live in anything remotely like the real world. Last year he won nine times and racked up numbers that had the stats-men comparing his dominance over the rest of the world to Tiger Woods. No-one is suggesting he is in Tiger’s league (for one thing, he’d need to maintain his standards for another 15 years), but he is, at least in the short term, in that ball park. Scheffler also has Tiger’s habit of doing odd things off the course. Back in May he was arrested on the way to the first round of the PGA Championship and he won’t be playing this week because he cut his hand making Christmas dinner. The favourite, instead, is Xander Schauffele and he’s not far off Scheffler in terms of quality. A two-time major winner in 2024, he won this event in 2019 by thrashing a final round 62 and he’s well capable of repeating that effort this week. Ludvig Aberg each way The Swede had a disappointing 2024, failing to add to his win tally and suffering injury late in the year. But he carded a 62 and a 64 when landing a top 20 at Sea Island in November and then finished sixth in the Hero World Challenge. His debut in this event didn’t look great on paper (47th) but he thrashed a brilliant 63 in the final round and in theory his aggressive and long driving is a good fit for the course. Aberg was a superstar in the 2023 Ryder Cup and will be desperate to play for Europe once again this September. We can expect a good year from him and he can make a fast start in Hawaii. bet365 are offering 16/1 each way and he’s the pick of the favourites. Back Ludvig Aberg each way with bet365 Austin Eckroat each way The young American won twice in 2024 and yet the compilers are not too keen on his chances this week. True, he is a debutant but his two wins offer hope that he can go well at a big price. The first victory came at PGA National in the Honda Classic which is where last year’s winner of this event (Chris Kirk) had won. The second success came in November on a wide open course in Mexico that needed attacking – just like this week. He’s available at a juicy top price 70/1 each way with Betfred. Back Austin Eckroat each way with Betfred Nico Echavarria top 20 The Colombian landed his first PGA Tour win in 2023 in Puerto Rico – yet another wide course that needed aggressive golf. He then made it two wins with victory in Japan late last year and he added sixth place in Mexico and second at Sea Island.
