The Manner
A hotel restaurant setting the New York media crowd abuzz is rare. Doing so days after opening is nearly impossible. But it’s all in a day’s work for the group behind Standard Hotels. Hotel Cipriani
Summer in Venice is hot and crowded. The last weekend of the summer? Sultry and scene-y. The Venice Film Festival, unlike Cannes, is open to the public and always rounds off the busiest season of the year. Even if you’re not walking the red carpet, you are guaranteed VIP company at Hotel Cipriani. Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix and Nicole Kidman have all stayed here, likely attracted by the discreet energy of the place (you can only reach the hotel by private boat). Forget sweating over the stools at Harry’s Bar – get in a round of Bellinis next to the Cipriani’s heated pool. The view over the lagoon at sunset is worthy of its own Golden Lion. — Rebecca Dolan

Abbaye Des Vaux-De-Cernay
You’ve finished a grueling week on the front row and stayed at one of the cool new spots in the centre of town like Chateau d’Eau or Hotel Hana. Now it’s all over, you need to get as far away from all those cocktails as possible. This resort might be just the fix: a 900-year-old Cistercian abbey in the style of an English manor house. The Abbaye is the perfect blend of city comforts (four restaurants, a spa and cinema on site) and country air (it’s deep in Rambouillet Forest, 90 minutes southwest of Paris). Start your day with a leisurely bike ride around the lake, and then unwind from the runway stress with a glass of Chablis by the fire—and not a street style photographer in sight. — Maxime Joly

Trunk Hotel
The hotel scene in Tokyo is getting more boutiquey after being dominated by the Amans and Four Seasons of the world for so long. Trunk in Yoyogi Park, positioned directly across from one of the city’s biggest parks, blends the best of Japanese and Scandi design. The centrepiece is a rooftop infinity pool overlooking the treetops–impossibly calm for the middle of Shibuya–with an open-air jacuzzi and firepit to complete the scene. It’s no wonder it already has a long list of regulars, such as US artist Tom Sachs and Hong Kong restaurateur Lindsay Jang. “It’s intimate, with the best lobby vibe – perfect for meetings or hanging out. You can grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner and stay for the party that forms around you,” says Jang. —Keita Takada

Capella Shanghai
The Bund, a bougie strip of Shanghai’s skyscraper-filled waterfront, has a glut of five-star hotels. The Peninsula is a favourite of Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and Brad Pitt, and designer brands have hosted events at the Bvlgari. But during Shanghai Fashion Week—a new hot entry in the menswear calendar after Moncler’s blockbuster show last year—the in-the-know crowd stays at Capella. You’d never guess that a bonafide resort is tucked into this trendy former French Concession neighbourhood, hiding a lush spa, guest-only garden and private patios. The rooms here, all villas, were built from the last Shikumen townhouses in Shanghai. Capella is a tribute to the 1930s golden age of French-meets-Shanghainese design, and it’s the perfect antidote to the super skyscrapers you’ll likely end up hanging out in along the river. — Rebecca Dolan

Mollie
Aspen: just like Davos, except the billionaires actually ski. For decades, the Colorado town has been shorthand for an haute rustic, fur-trimmed kind of alpine leisure. But one newcomer is countering that: Mollie, a Japanese/Nordic-inspired hotel very unlike its neighbors, founded by the team behind moody East Village speakeasy Death & Co. Make it your pad for the Winter X Games, the high-octane colosseum of chyeah bro snowboarding. The Mollie’s oversized leather chairs around the fire are the perfect place to warm up, whether you’re hanging with the athletes or the VC types in town to flip more than just a 180. — Murray Clark

Al Moudira
Anyone can sign up for the Egyptian Marathon in Luxor—the oldest in the Middle East and North Africa—which makes it a great choice for newcomers looking to improve their PBs before entering one of the bigger marathons. There’s fun to be had along the way, too: spotting hieroglyphic carvings on a run that passes ancient treasures the Colossi of Memnon and the Temple of Hatshepsut. Nestled on the west bank of the Nile down the road from the race, Al Moudira is part palace, part oasis. The hotel sits in five acres of sand and palm trees and was constructed with the help of architect Olivier Sedanou, who built Christian Louboutin’s rustic residence nearby. Al Mourdira's new owner fell in love with the place while hiring it out for his wife’s birthday, and now he’s on a mission to make it more of a destination, fit for everything from lavish weddings to exhausted runners, recovering by the pool with fresh plates of crisp falafel. — Zinya Salfiti

Palazzo Talìa
You could witness this Boiler Room tour in a dingy warehouse, or you can make it a Roman holiday and see it in a venue flanked by white marble columns, with fresh-from-the-source negronis to warm you up pre-set. Then retreat from the hardstyle beats to the sanctuary of Palazzo Talìa. Here, the serene escapism of Call Me By Your Name meets the lavish flair of Challengers—no surprise, really, as this newly-opened hotel is the brainchild of director Luca Guadagnino. The 17th-century palazzo, once the oldest educational institution in Rome until its closure in the late ’90s, has been painstakingly brought back to life by Guadagnino, with a gallery of restored marble busts, pastel bouclé sofas, and a 1940s Murano chandelier. After a night of partying, recover in the underground sauna or dive into the pool. — Zinya Salfiti

Our Habitas AlUla
The Saudis have made a big cultural investment in the ancient desert city of AlUla, vying to turn it into a global arts destination—which might seem unlikely, until you see its epic sandstone vistas and Richard Serra-esque rock formations. The arts festival, now in its fourth year, is inching its way towards Frieze/Basel status. Our Habitas opened one of the first luxury hotels here in 2021, and they’ve been dialling into its art scene ever since. The hotel's Art Villas have a view into the open-air desert installations, and anyone looking to go fully off-grid can head next door to the property's caravan site and unplug in a luxe Airstream. Good luck to them—you’ll find me in the spa. —Rebecca Dolan

Further
Ubud Literary Festival is the biggest in Southeast Asia, and it’s been drawing giants like Amitav Ghosh and Bernardine Evaristo to Bali since 2002. Close to the action, the Further hotel offers a real cinematic backdrop for cramming the star speaker’s latest novel (or finally finishing your own) in the laidback seaside village of Pererenan. Suites with leather chairs and shag rugs are spread across two terracotta-toned buildings, which are also home to a surf shop and skincare store. Every room has a record player, so throw on some vinyl while you devour the picnic-basket breakfast delivered to your door. — Zinya Salfiti

Sterrekopje
After torrential rain turned Burning Man into a mud bath last year in Nevada, it’s smart to look towards the more intimate regional “burns” that happen around the globe. One of these— Afrikaburn—takes place outside Cape Town during the warm and sunny days of autumn, with the same eccentric mix of art, music and community spirit as the OG. Perched in the foothills of Franschhoek, the five-star Sterrekopje hotel has a boho vibe, letting guests pick herbs with the chef or hang out with pigs on the farm. You’ll feel re-energized after a stay here: it’s perfect for getting back to reality after a weekend of sound baths and ayahuasca weddings. — Rebecca Dolan

Casa Yuma
Party in a graveyard? Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. While the name translates as Day of the Dead, Mexico’s annual Día de Muertos is really a celebration of the good life: all-night raves, light shows, free-flowing sweet breads and luxury hot chocolate. The arty city of Oaxaca is ideal for dipping into the día festivo scene. Afterward, take an actual dip at Casa Yuma, a cool new resort in the nearby surf town of Puerto Escondido. It has full-service cabanas on the beach and a firepit at sunset. — Rebecca Dolan

Chez Georges
The Rio carnival holiday idea has finally made it out of the group chat, and you’re in need of a chill place to stay to offset the festival energy. Enter Brazilian brutalist hotel Chez Georges, located in the picturesque hills of historic Santa Teresa. Each suite is named after a famous George, from Harrison to Gershwin, and the décor is ’70s-inspired minimalism. The hotel also has a recording studio, with lush forest views and a state-of-the-art production room hidden beneath the pool, making it a dream creative bolthole for musicians such as Luedji Luna and Adi Oasis. Volga
Over the past decade, Corona Capital (Mexico’s answer to Primavera) has attracted attention for its eclectic lineup, including everyone from Green Day to Shawn Mendes, and more festivalgoers fly in each year. Volga—a futuristic monolith of wood and steel—is the best place to book a suite and turn it into the year’s most memorable afterparty. There are live performances on the roof. There’s an underground club. And there are chill rooms full of natural light and clean lines to get a solid eight hours before your next bout of revelry. — Murray Clark

The Moore
Miami Art Week—an umbrella term for the numerous art and design fairs that take place across the city each December–attracts gallerists, collectors, artists and the style crowd in equal measure. At the Moore, a longtime staple of the city’s Design District, art really is in the bones. The 1920s building was originally a furniture showroom and exhibition space, and now a webbed Zaha Hadid design wows in the four-story atrium. The hotel boasts 13 luxe suites and looks set to compete with the Miami Beach stalwarts as the go-to refuge during the party-with-a-pinch-of-art season. — Zinya Salfiti

Paramount House Hotel
Seven-odd years after opening, Paramount House Hotel is still a centre of gravity for Sydney locals, with its exposed-brick walls, clean lines and cool chevron metalwork. “It has a stunning blend of artistry and warmth,” says Australian actor Sam Corlett. “Whenever I’m there, every corner seems to welcome a sense of inspiration.” The hotel is part of a collection of businesses in the former headquarters of Paramount Studios; its neighbors include restored 1940s screening room Golden Age Cinema, millennial-coded gym Studio Mouvoir and bakery AP House (which also provides an in-room menu for anyone brave enough to eat croissants in bed). You could almost forget that the site is just a short ride from the harbour. But this famously picturesque waterfront hosts the start of the Rolex Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race, a high-energy Boxing Day tradition loved by locals. While it might be less well-known abroad than the Rolex Fastnet race, we’ll take a viewing position on a superyacht-slash-bar in Sydney Harbour over a windy cliff on the Isle of Wight any day. — Nathalie Kernot
