The EFL job that Jose Mourinho joked about managing has just become available
Jose Mourinho has left Millwall fans dreaming after he recently joked about wanting to manage at The Den. The Lions are on the hunt for a new manager after it was announced that Neil Harris would be stepping down from his role as head coach after Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough GettyMourinho is a two-time Champions League winner[/caption] And while the Special One is currently in charge at Turkish giants Fenerbahce, having taken charge in June, he recently admitted that he would be keen on a return to English football. In October, Mourinho named Millwall as the surprise club he would consider managing, who are based closed to his London home. The 61-year-old had previously suggested that his next team would be a relegation-threatened side in England, following a European clash with former employers Manchester United. When probed as to who this would be in an interview with Sky Sports, he replied: “Millwall, Millwall. I just have to cross the bridge from my house. Millwall!” And fans of the London club clearly hadn’t forgotten the former Chelsea boss’ comments after news broke of Harris’ departure, as they flocked online to wish for a spectacular appointment. One Lions supporter wrote on X: “Jose Mourinho a man can dream.” Another urged: “Pick up the phone Jose.” A third teased: “Jose we await your arrival,” while a more confident fan proclaimed: “Jose Mourinho is taking over from Neil Harris at Millwall… you heard it here first.” Elsewhere, one supporter called for the Portuguese coach to keep his word: “Guess it’s time to see if Mourinho was serious after all.” But while many would be surely love to see the legendary manager try his hand at Championship management, he later clarified that he had no intention of taking charge of a relegation-threatened side. It’s too hard! Honestly, I believe that has to be the hardest thing. “It’s more difficult than playing for titles. It has to be very hard emotionally, because it’s something that changes lives. I think it’s brave guys that do it.” But with Millwall currently sitting 11th in the Championship table and eight points clear of the bottom three, this logic wouldn’t completely rule Mourinho out of the running here. The three-time Premier League winning manager also admitted that he hoped to be back in England at some point, having previously had stints with Man United, Chelsea and Tottenham. He explained: “I had three clubs in England, so four different periods I’ve coached in England, and I love it. “And by the social point of view, I’ve been lucky enough to live in so many cities, but my family lives in London.
