Teenage sensation Gout Gout who broke 22-year-old Usain Bolt record compared to Olympic track legend as hype grows
Gout Gout, who ran quicker than Usain Bolt, has now been compared to an Australian track legend as his meteoric rise continues. The teenage sensation has broken multiple records in 2024, including Bolt’s, but he is showing no signs of slowing down. Gout Gout has been compared to an Australian sprinting legendGetty Gout is only 16 years old and he’s already setting standards that one of athletic’s greatest couldn’t reach. In August, he ran a 200m time of 20.60 at the Under-20 World Championships which beat Bolt’s time by 0.01 seconds. And then earlier this month, Gout smashed some more records at the All Schools Queensland Championship in Australia. He won the 100m and 200m events, as well as setting the fastest time by an Australian for 31 years. The teenager has now been likened to an Aussie athletics icon by sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney. According to McAvaney, Gout has created a level of excitement similar to Olympic champion Cathy Freeman. He told Code Sports: “Has there been anyone more exciting? “Freeman was but he’s at a more mature stage than Cathy was at 16 in terms of what he is doing. “We have never had anyone quite like him and the potential is unique within this country I think.” Freeman won her first of four Commonwealth Games gold medals aged 16 and later became a two-time world champion. Cathy Freeman won Commonwealth gold aged 16 before adding the Olympic title in 2000 She also won 400m gold on home soil at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The medal followed the silver she had won in Atlanta four years earlier. Freeman, who also competed in the 100m, 200m and relay events, remains the ninth-fastest woman of all-time with a 400m personal best of 48.63 seconds. So Gout is already being compared to one of Australia’s best and there’s no surprise after smashing multiple national and Oceanic records. His biggest achievement would have been breaking Bolt‘s 22-year-old record at the U20 World Championships though. And he has since signed a sponsorship deal with Adidas and trained with Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles. Bolt even shared some words of advice for Gout earlier this month. The Jamaican icon reminisced on his early days as an athlete and gave some advice to the younger generation. Gout has been compared to athletics icon Bolt and FreemanGetty Gout is aware of the comparisons he has with Bolt and after breaking his record in August he commented on them. He said: “It’s pretty cool because Usain Bolt is arguably the greatest athlete of all time, and just being compared to him is a great feeling. “Obviously, I’m Gout Gout, so I’m trying to make a name for myself. If I can get to the level he was, that would be a great achievement.” The rising star wants to walk his own path to greatness but being compared to Bolt and Freeman shows just how good he is. And it’s only a matter of time before he sets some more records.
