Pop star Tate McRae has taken the world by storm thanks to the release of popular songs, including "Greedy," "Exes," and "Sports Car."

Her singles are always accompanied by high-energy music videos that feature electric dance moves, stunning looks, and iconic "hairography," which often reminds viewers of legendary singers like Christina Aguilera and, of course, Britney Spears

During a new interview, in which she shared details about the making of her newly released third album, "So Close To What," Tate McRae told her fans how she really feels about being compared to several great performers, especially the Princess of Pop.

Following the release of McRae's lead single for her third album, "It's ok I'm ok," netizens were quick to compare the singer's music, dance moves, and energy to those of the "Toxic" singer.

Since releasing additional tracks, like "Sports Car" and her third album, the comparisons have continued, which McRae shared can be a bit frightening.

In an interview with The Independent, the 21-year-old said people likening her to Spears is "flattering and scary." She continued, "It’s such a crazy statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears."

McRae, however, didn't stop there. The singer said the comment was like comparing someone to "Michael Jackson."

"That's the blueprint," she said.

McRae is gearing up for her "Miss Possessive" tour, which will begin in March 2025 and hit arenas worldwide.

Although material from the show hasn't been released yet, fans and critics are expecting much of the same from McRae: stellar vocals and exhilarating choreography.

During a previous interview with People, the singer spoke about how she likes to prepare for her big performances and revealed she tries to channel the greats, like Beyoncé, to get her mind in the right place.

"Whenever I'm out of breath on stage, I'm always like, well, f-ck Beyoncé can do it — I don't have an excuse!'" she said. "She's figured out a way to run on the treadmill and sing at the same time. You watch back to Coachella, and she was dancing and singing that whole time and figured out a way to sound phenomenal and nail it."

According to McRae, that's all a normal part of being an artist. She calls it "a really, really hard thing to do" that she's focusing on getting better at.

In an Instagram post, McRae shared an emotional message following the release of her third album. "This was such a magical process writing this album, and I'm so happy it is out in the world," she wrote in the caption.

"Being 21 felt like a f-cking whirlwind and was one of the most confusing yet exhilarating years of my life. Always growing and learning and trying to be as present as possible," she finished.

McRae's project, "So Close To What," was officially released on February 21, 2025. The 16-track album features the popular singles "2 Hands" and "It's ok I'm ok," which debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

There's no question about whether pop music lovers are enjoying McRae's newest release.

"Tate McRae's album keeps getting better and better with every listen," one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"This is so much better than her previous albums," another user commented. "This is what I wished 'Think Later' was. More bops and less ballads."

A third user also chimed in and said that McRae had found her "niche."

"I keep running it back," they shared.

This Album Is Different For McRae

During the press run for McRae's latest album, the young star shared surprising details about how she felt during the recording process. While chatting with Jake Shane, the "Miss Possessive" singer said that her writing is much more "bold" now than in the past.

"Like, if I was beating around the bush before, I wasn't beating around the bush this time," she said. "I had some sh-t to say."

"I felt like a lot of this album was focused on stepping into my 21-year-old woman self," she continued. "So, I feel like this album felt a lot more feminine than previous albums."
