The Sentry tips

  • Xander Schauffele to win The Sentry @ 11/2
  • Sungjae Im to win The Sentry @ 18/1
  • Adam Scott to win The Sentry @ 33/1

Schauffele looks the man to beat

With McIlroy and Scheffler missing, it is no surprise to see Xander Schauffele at the head of the market, and after the best year of his career, the American will be hoping to get 2025 off to the perfect start.

Schauffele made a big breakthrough when he collected his first Major triumph at the US PGA Championship and then followed that with another big-prize success at The Open, so he should be confident of seeing off any PGA Tour challenge.

He also brings some impressive course form to the table and should perform a lot better than he did last year when he was tenth, as he won this tournament in 2019, was second in 2020 and fifth in 2021, so there is a strong chance the favourite can come to punters’ rescue this week.

Course form is a big plus for Im

South Korean Sungjae Im is another who has good memories of previous spins at the Plantation Course and the 26-year-old can build upon those to make a bold bid for glory this week.

Im was unable to get into the winners’ circle on the PGA Tour in 2024, but he had seven top-ten finishes in the second half of the year, including seventh spot in the prestigious Tour Championship.

He stormed home last year with a closing round of 63 to secure a share of fifth spot and he has not finished worse than 13th in his four efforts to win this tournament so he could begin the year in perfect style.

Scott showing no signs of taking things easy

Former Masters champion Adam Scott is still a force at this level even now he is in his mid-40s and the signs in the second half of 2024 suggested he could have a big new year.

The Australian finished second at the BMW Championship a shot behind Keegan Bradley and followed that with a fourth place at the Tour Championship the following week.

He was 29th on his last visit to Kapalua in 2023, but he has four top-ten finishes at the venue, including second spot behind Vijay Singh in 2007, so he can plainly handle the undulating terrain.
