The third day of the November meeting at Cheltenham features six races, including two Premier Handicaps and a Listed event. The best race on the card is the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (3.30) and the market is dominated by promising youngsters Dysart Enos and Burdett Road. Our expert, Clive Gildon, has a trio of selections on the card including one in the feature race, one in the other Premier Handicap and another in the novice handicap chase. The Other Mozzie has run only twice over fences and looked good when making a winning chasing debut at Galway last month. He needed every yard of the 2m2f to get up near the line and beat rivals who were rated higher than him over hurdles, suggesting he improved for fences. The selection unseated his rider when looking in trouble over the same course and distance last time, but may have found conditions too soft and it’s worth putting a line through the effort. The Other Mozzie will definitely be suited by going up two furlongs in trip at a stiff course like Cheltenham and Cromwell has booked Jonathan Burke to ride. That is another big positive. 2.55 Cheltenham – Manothepeople The Holland Cooper Handicap Chase (2.55) will be a test of stamina over 3m31/2f and that will suit Manothepeople, who was strong at the finish when winning at this track over 3m2f in April. The Fergal O’Brien-trained gelding returned from a summer break over an inadequate 2m71/2f at Chepstow last month and shaped well, despite clearly finding the distance shorter than is ideal. Manothepeople was at the back and getting reminders as early as the eighth, but made rapid headway to lead at the fifth-last fence and faded only over the final few obstacles to finish third. That will almost certainly have been just a prep run for a return to this course, for this race, and Manothepeople can be expected to improve for the outing, especially over four-furlongs further. Burke will hopefully be going for a double following The Other Mozzie earlier on the card and Manothepeople has sound claims. 3.30 Cheltenham – Black Poppy The Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (3.30) is the feature and plenty of punters will make it between Dysart Enos and Burdett Road. Both have strong claims, but neither has been missed in the market and the best value bet might be Black Poppy at a big old price. Trainer Kerry Lee is 3-14 in handicap hurdles at Cheltenham and doesn’t have runners here unless they have a good chance of winning. She will probably have had this race in mind for Black Poppy because the eight-year-old has an impressive record at this course. He has run only twice at the track, winning his first start here in a 2m1f handicap hurdle in April 2023 before finishing second over course and distance at last year’s October meeting. Black Poppy beat all bar easy winner Our Champ that day and had an impossible task attempting to concede 15lb to that rival. Our Champ has won twice since and is now rated 29lb higher, but Black Poppy is only 1lb higher now that he is returning to his favourite track. He has run only twice since and had an impossible task in last year’s Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on one of them.
