He's just an amazing man,” Woodward, 31, tells PEOPLE of her fiancé, Nashville-based investor and entrepreneur Jordan Howell. “We are compatible in every single way, from our approach to life to our views to what we enjoy.”

Still, Woodward says she didn’t have a clue as to exactly when Howell would pop the question. “I had zero idea,” she laughs. “I mean, I knew it was coming. I knew it would be before New Years because the New Years prior, we had talked about our resolutions, and one of them was that we would get engaged.”

On Dec. 21, 2024 Howell popped the question.

“I was just getting home from a show in Arizona,” Woodward recalls of the proposal that took place at the couple’s Nashville townhome. “(Howell) had everything prepared. It was perfect. He had candles and rose petals all over the house lined up and he had my favorite song ‘When You Say Nothing At All’ playing. It was an intimate moment, very private and romantic. It was perfect.” What made the magical evening even more perfect was the fact that just a few hours earlier, Woodward had been in the studio with her Runaway June bandmates Jennifer Wayne and Natalie Stovall recording a love song.

“The idea for ‘To Be Yours’ came from this talk (Howell) and I were having about kids and if we wanted kids one day,” says Woodward of the creative beginnings of the song. “I said, ‘if it happens for us, that’s amazing, and if not, that’s okay too.’ And it was that conversation that just gave me the idea for the song. Ultimately, we could have this amazing family, but I would be completely happy just to be with you.”

Soon after, Woodward went on to write the first verse of “To Be Yours” in her bedroom, and eventually brought the song to her Runaway June bandmates. “The girls luckily loved the idea, and they just brought it to life in a whole new way,” reflects Woodward. “When I wrote the song, it was definitely with (Howell) in mind, so he’s excited for this one too. It’s special for us.”

Certainly, it’s a special one also in the trajectory of Runaway June, whose harmonies have been a constant in country music since the group’s inception in 2015 - albeit with some major shuffling of the trio’s members.

“What makes this song so special is when those three-part harmonies kick in,” Woodward says of “To Be Yours,” which she co-wrote alongside her Runaway June bandmates along with Aaron Eshuis and GRAMMY award winner Ron Fair. “It’s just kind of classic sounding. We haven’t had a chance to do much of that kind of style. And with ‘To Be Yours,’ I think it’s where we sit musically as a band at our very best. I think it’s who we are at our core and what we love about music in general. It’s very stripped back and simple, but also with a powerful meaning.”

And while the country trio is most certainly looking forward to a busy year that will include both touring and new music, Woodward says she’s also looking forward to wedding planning.

“Right now, we’ve booked a venue, and I think that we’re going to do it in October,” she says. “We’re renting an Airbnb in Mexico, and it’s just going to be immediate family, and we’re going to do a weekend and just kind of celebrate in a really chill way. It’ll be more like a family vacation, and we’ll do a ceremony there, but maybe a bigger gathering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where I’m from, later.”

For Woodward, she is excited for what's next in her personal and professional life.

“It takes a couple years for a band to figure out their sound, and I mean, the band is coming up on year three now since I joined, and we have figured out the sound,” Woodward concludes. “It feels like we’re being completely authentic in who we are and what we want to share, both content wise and musically. So, we’re in a really sweet spot right now, and I’m just excited to release the music that makes us feel that way.”
