An RT crew has traveled to southern Lebanon, days after the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced.
The armistice was enacted last Wednesday, following 14 months of hostilities. The fighting has waned but has not stopped entirely, with both sides already repeatedly accusing each other of violations.
RT’s Steve Sweeney spoke to the residents of Maarakeh, a Lebanese village located to the east of the city of Tyre. The settlement has been seriously damaged by Israeli shelling, with multiple buildings destroyed during the hostilities.
The village is adorned with the flags of the Hezbollah group, with locals expressing strong support and readiness to continue fighting Israel. The villagers paid tribute to those who had lost their lives in the fighting, with 11 men from Maarakeh alone killed in the hostilities.

“We cannot compare to the martyrs, not even by 1%, because they sacrificed themselves for the Resistance. One such hero is as valuable as thousands of people, and I’m proud to have had the opportunity to be around them. I hope that God will give me the opportunity to receive the same honor. I was brought up on the principles of Resistance – faith, party and determination mean everything to me,” a local young man said.
