The Smurfs are back for a whole new adventure!
On Thursday, Feb. 6, Paramount Pictures unveiled the first trailer for the reboot of Smurfs, arriving in theaters this July.
The film, directed by Chris Miller and co-director Matt Landon, is led by Rihanna who, along with voicing Smurfette, created new original music for the film and served as a producer. Additional producers include Ryan Harris, Laurence “Jay” Brown and Tyran “Ty-Ty” Smith.
The trailer, introduced by Rihanna herself, features Smurfette narrating about her idyllic life in Smurf village — before they get transported to Paris.
"When Papa Smurf is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him," reads a synopsis. "With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe."

Smurfs is set to premiere over 10 years after the first film The Smurfs, which arrived in 2011 and had Katy Perry as Smurfette. That was followed by The Smurfs 2 in 2013, and Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017. The franchise is based on the comic series of the same name created by Belgian comic-book artist Peyo.

Smurfs' star-studded cast also includes Nick Offerman, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd and Xolo Maridueña, with Kurt Russell and John Goodman.
“I get to show up in my PJs in my third trimester,” Rihanna said of working on the new Smurfs film at CinemaCon back in April 2023, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day."
Smurfs is in theaters July 18.
