Rayo Vallecano vs Real Madrid predictions

Things haven’t yet clicked for Real Madrid this season. But through a combination of recent Barcelona slip ups, and Madrid’s ability to conjure up wins while underperforming, Los Blancos are one win away from going to top of the La Liga table. 

Standing in Real’s way is local rivals, Rayo Vallecano.

Vallecano sit 12th in the La Liga table with 19 points from 15 matches. In their last five domestic league fixtures, Vallecano has won two and lost three. 

Although this season has been a struggle at times, it is going considerably better than last year when Vallecano finished 17th, one place and five points above the drop. 

Inigo Perez is the manager at the Vallecas Stadium. Perez took over from the sacked Francisco in February, tasked with keeping Vallecano in La Liga. With that task completed, the former Osasuna midfielder now has the job of turning Los Franjirrojos into a stable La Liga club.

Perez appears to have started at the back. Vallecano has only conceded 16 goals this season. Only five teams in the league have conceded less. But the trade off is goals at the other end, with Rayo only managing 15 La Liga goals in this campaign.

Things have picked up recently. Vallecano has won their last two matches in all competitions, so should come into the match with some confidence. 

They started out with a 3-2 win away at Unionistas in the Copa del Rey, and followed that up with three points in La Liga thanks to a 1-0 win over Valencia on Saturday. 

Real Madrid have also won their last two matches in all competitions. They won 3-0 away at Girona on Saturday. The win was a great way to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 loss away to Athletic Club in the previous round of midweek fixtures.

Then on Wednesday, Los Blancos went to Italy and defeated Serie A leaders Atalanta 3-2 in the Champions League.

The win in Italy could be season defining. Real were in serious danger of not making the knockout stages of the Champions League. They still aren’t out of the woods yet, they sit 20th, only four places and two points inside the top 24.

But the consequences of defeat against Atalanta were unthinkable. So to travel to Italy and beat one of the most in-form and free-scoring teams in Europe, never mind Italy, was an outstanding result, and will no doubt give the team inspiration as they head into the new year.

Domestically, Madrid are second in the La Liga with 36 points from 16 matches. Madrid is two points behind leaders Barcelona, and they also have one game in hand. 

Furthermore, Carlo Ancelotti’s team still hasn’t got going, and there is still better to come.

Defensively they are sound, having only conceded 13 goals. But there still looks something amiss in the attacking third of the pitch. 

Los Blancos are the second highest scorers in La Liga with 34 goals. But they are 16 goals behind Barcelona, and with the strikers at Ancelotti’s disposal, that is a huge gap. 

Things are slightly starting to come together. Jude Bellingham is back in form and scoring freely again. But players still seem to be picking up injuries, Kylian Mbappe the latest, he limped off against Atalanta not long after scoring. 

On a positive for Ancelotti, Vinicius Jr. returned to the team in Italy and marked his comeback with a goal. 

Rayo Vallecano vs Real Madrid betting tips

Vallecano has been poor at home this season. They have picked up only eight points from seven home league matches. But Madrid has been far from perfect on the road, they have only won four from eight. 

Madrid has improved on the road recently, though. As well as the win in Dortmund, they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over both Leganes and Girona in recent weeks.

We don’t see Madrid conceding many, one at the most. And Los Blancos haven’t been putting teams to the sword on the road, although that could change at any moment.

On current form we can see Madrid winning this 2-0 or 3-1 and the match finishing with under 4.5 goals.

Following on from our first tip, we can see Real Madrid winning this game by a couple of goals. 

So if you are slightly concerned that Madrid might hammer Vallecano and bust under 4.5 goals, a bet on Real to win from a -1 start might be more suitable. 

In fairness, the handicap bet has far better odds and we were slightly surprised when we saw the price – this is probably partly down to the fact that Rayo doesn’t concede many. 

But this is Real Madrid. The chances are they will win. And they only have to win by more than one goal for this wager to come home – something they have achieved in two of their last three away matches in La Liga.

Jude Bellingham to score or assist – 33/20

Jude Bellingham didn’t score in his first seven La Liga matches of the season. He also missed four games at the start of the campaign with injury.

He finally scored his first La Liga goal of the season against Osasuna on Matchday 13, and he hasn’t looked back since. 

Including the goal against Osasuna, Bellingham has now scored in five successive La Liga matches, and he has also assisted in three of those fixtures.

Bellingham hasn’t just been scoring in La Liga. He also found the back of the net in Madrid’s 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday. 

The only team to shut him out in this run of games was Liverpool. And they haven’t been doing too badly of late.
