Raiders minority owner Tom Brady could face more restrictions from NFL after Patrick Mahomes moment

Tom Brady could soon face more broadcast restrictions from the NFL. The legendary quarterback, widely considered the greatest of all-time, is in his first season of a 10-year, $375 million deal as Fox Sports’ top color commentator. The seven-time Super Bowl champion purchased a ten percent stake in the franchise with business partner Tom Wagner. Since getting approved for a minority stake, Brady has faced a number of league-imposed restrictions on areas in which announcers typically do prep work. That includes observing practices and engaging in candid conversations with coaches and players in the days before games. He is also not allowed to criticise officials or other teams on a broadcast, though that rule has already proven to have some wiggle room. During a game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers, he seemed to question the decision to eject Lions defensive back Brian Branch. “I don’t love that call at all,” Brady said on air. “Obviously it’s a penalty, but to me, there has to be serious intent in a game like this.” Some speculated that he could face a fine for the comment, but the NFL soon confirmed it had ‘no issue’ with Brady’s statement. However, the league is expected to discuss broadening restrictions after Brady sat down for an interview with Patrick Mahomes on Fox’s coverage last month.
