Peyton List still gets emotional as she remembers the loss of her friend Cameron Boyce, who passed away five years ago.
Boyce, the beloved Disney Channel star, tragically passed away on July 6, 2019, at the age of 20. His death was caused by a seizure related to epilepsy, a condition he had been managing privately. According to his family, Cameron suffered from a specific type of epilepsy called Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), which is rare but can occur in individuals with epilepsy who experience uncontrolled seizures.
Peyton List and Cameron Boyce knew each other from their time working together on Disney Channel’s hit series "Jessie."
Peyton List Gets Emotional As She Remembers Cameron Boyce
When speaking with PEOPLE Magazine, Peyton List grew emotional as she reflected on the ways she continues to honor her late "Jessie" co-star, Cameron Boyce, following his passing at the age of 20.
"Cameron's mom and dad, Victor and Libby Boyce, and his sister, Maya, they all run the Cameron Boyce Foundation, and so they raise money every year for finding a cure for epilepsy," she told the outlet.
In the wake of his passing, the Boyce family established The Cameron Boyce Foundation, which continues to honor his legacy by funding research into epilepsy, supporting other charitable causes, and advocating for a kinder, more inclusive world.
"I just try to go every year and raise as much money as possible, and yeah, just talk about him whenever I can," List added. "He was such a great person."
Peyton List Calls Cameron Boyce 'One Of My Best Friends'
When asked if there was anything she would want to say to Cameron Boyce today, Peyton List became visibly emotional, moved by the idea of having one final conversation with her late friend.
"Yeah, all the time. Every moment in my life," she said as tears filled her eyes. "He was one of my best friends and he was like a brother to me growing up, so every time something big happens I want to call him."
"I didn't expect to cry, because I talk about him so much that I don't expect to cry anymore, but it hits at different times," she added as she wiped away tears.
Cameron Boyce And Peyton List Worked Together At Disney Channel
The duo grew close as they worked together on Disney Channel’s hit series "Jessie." The two played siblings on the show, with Peyton portraying Emma Ross and Cameron playing her younger brother Luke Ross.
"Jessie" aired from 2011 to 2015, and during that time, the cast formed a close bond, with Peyton and Cameron developing a particularly strong friendship. Their on-screen chemistry translated into a deep off-screen connection, and Peyton has often spoken about how much she cherished their time together and the impact Cameron had on her life.
"The boy whose contagious laugh I can still hear. The boy who left everyone feeling hopeful and full of love," List said in a lengthy Instagram post remembering Boyce. "He was younger than me but taught me how to spread love and kindness more than anyone that has ever been in my life."
“There is a hole in my heart that will never heal left for you. I will never stop talking about you,” she added. "I will never stop talking about you. My kids will hear about you with every lesson and your legacy will live on."

In line with Cameron's philanthropic spirit, the foundation supports various causes he was passionate about, including clean water initiatives and efforts to end homelessness.
