Adam Brody and Kristen Bell’s witty rom-com series may be called Nobody Wants This but fans want more of their on-screen romance. 

Following the cliffhanger ending of the show’s inaugural season, Netflix announced in October 2024 that Nobody Wants This was being renewed for a second season. Fans and crew alike were thrilled to learn that Noah (Brody) and Joanne’s (Bell) love story wasn't over.

“The incredible cast, crew, producers and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers' reactions to this series now that it's out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed," said show creator Erin Foster in a statement. "I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story ... Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!"

Nobody Wants This is inspired by Foster’s real-life love story with her husband, Simon Tikham. The series follows Noah, a newly single rabbi, and Joanne, an agnostic dating podcaster, as they attempt to make their relationship work despite major cultural differences.

How did Nobody Wants This season 1 end? 

The final scenes of the first season of Nobody Wants This left a lot of questions unanswered about Noah and Joanne’s relationship. With his lifelong dream of becoming head rabbi finally in reach, she initially agrees to convert to Judaism — until she comes face-to-face with Noah's ex-girlfriend Rebecca (Emily Arlook).

Rebecca warns that being the wife of the head rabbi isn’t as simple as it seems, causing Joanne to have a change of heart. She tells Noah that she doesn’t want him to choose between his religion or their relationship and breaks up with him. 

Despite her telling him not to, Noah runs after Joanne and is there waiting for her when she gets off the bus. While the ending makes it seem like Noah has chosen Joanne over his new position as head rabbi, that decision isn’t crystal clear. What is clear is that Noah can’t have both, something Foster hinted that she wanted to continue exploring in a 2024 interview with IndieWire. 

“I think this is the kind of show where you want to get the thing you’re there to get and I wanted to give people that moment of, ‘We choose each other, but everyone knows we’re giving up a lot to choose each other, so how are we gonna do it?’ " she said. "And that, to me, felt like a realistic but still satisfying ending still with conflict, so you have somewhere to go.”

What is Nobody Wants This season 2 about? 

An official synopsis for Nobody Wants This season 2 hasn’t been released yet, but Brody has echoed Foster’s sentiments about wanting to see where Noah and Joanne’s relationship is headed now that they’ve committed to each other.  

“I think that’s what the show can explore,” The O.C. actor told Tudum in February 2025. “What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”

Which cast members are returning for Nobody Wants This season 2?

In addition to Brody and Bell, most of the show’s primary cast is set to return. Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons will reprise their roles as the leads' siblings Morgan and Sasha, respectively. Other returning cast members include Jackie Tohn as Esther and Sherry Cola as Ashley.  

Tovah Feldshuh and Paul Ben-Victor will return as Noah’s parents, Bina and Ilan, and Stephanie Faracy and Michael Hitchcock will continue to play Joanne’s parents, Henry and Lynne. 

Which new cast members are joining Nobody Wants This season 2?

Brody’s real-life wife, Leighton Meester, will guest-star in the second season of Nobody Wants This. She will play Abby, Joanne’s middle school nemesis, who’s become an "Instagram mommy influencer," per Variety. 

Also joining the cast is Bottoms star Miles Fowler. He’ll play Lenny, Noah’s Matzah Ballers teammate, who is set up with Joanne’s sister, Morgan. 

When did filming for Nobody Wants This season 2 start?

Tohn told Deadline in February 2025 that filming for Nobody Wants This season 2 was planned to start on March 3. She described the whole experience as “a whirlwind.” 

“It sort of feels like we haven’t stopped since season 1, because we came out and then we were doing press,” Tohn said. “Then we were sort of thrust right into awards season, which was sort of insane that we were even included in that conversation. And now, we’re starting season 2 already.”

When will Nobody Wants This season 2 be released?

An official release date for season 2 of Nobody Wants This hasn’t been announced. Season 1 of the series is available to stream on Netflix.
