Milan are hosting Juventus on Saturday evening, and in-form Lazio and Bologna clash, but one of the most intriguing fixtures of the weekend has to be table-topping Napoli hosting Roma. Napoli have suffered a bit of a reality check in recent weeks. After an impressive start to the season,  Gli Azzurri has seen a healthy four point lead reduced to just one over their past two matches. A 3-0 home defeat to Atalanta on Matchday 11 was followed by a 1-1 draw away at Inter on Matchday 12. The Inter stalemate would have to go down as a good result, but Napoli boss Antonio Conte would have been far from impressed with the manner of the home defeat to the Black and Blues the previous week.  The two results have to be put into perspective. The loss to Atalanta was to the team who currently sits second in Serie A. They are flying, having won six in a row. And who wouldn’t take a draw at the San Siro away to Inter. They are the defending Serie A champions afterall. Napoli has 26 points from their 12 matches. They have a goal difference of +10. Under Conte they have tightened up at the back, only conceding nine goals (only Juve with seven have conceded less).  If there is one criticism, it is goal scoring. Gil Azzurri has only found the back of the net 19 times. In contrast, Atalanta has already scored 31 times, third place Fiorentina 25, and fourth place Inter 26. Scoring goals is an area that has to be addressed if Napoli is to maintain its title challenge. As for Roma, where do we start?  I Giallorossi has just hired their third coach of the season and their fourth in a calendar year. And the best of it is, the new man at the helm is club legend Claudio Ranieri, a man who retired from football in May. 73-year-old Ranieri was brought in last week to replace Ivan Juric who was sacked just 30 minutes after Roma’s 3-2 home defeat by Bologna, their final match before the international break.  Juric’s dismissal came less than two months into the job, after the Croatian was brought in to replace Daniele de Rossi, who was himself sacked after just four matches of the season.  Roma currently sit 12th in the table on 13 points. They are just four above the relegation zone.  The decision to sack Juric seemed harsh. But the performances on the pitch under the Croatian weren’t good enough.  Roma has been awful in recent weeks. They looked destined for a relegation battle under Juric. And there has been little fight in the team for weeks now, so the chances of Juric getting them to fight for survival looked slim. Claudio Ranieri will have his work cut out. He is a charismatic figure and could get a response from the players. But the problem he will have is that the issues at the club seem to go way beyond the previous manager.  It’s hard to believe that this is the same team that reached successive European finals in 2022 and 2023 under Jose Mourinho.  Napoli vs Roma betting tips. 18+ GambleAware.org – Please play responsibly. Both teams to score (Yes)

With home advantage, we fully expect to see Napoli score.

With a new manager in charge in Rome, we wouldn’t be shocked to see a much improved Roma also find the back of the net in the Derby del Sole.

Furthermore, Roma has scored in each of their previous four Serie A games, including four goals in their last two matches.

There is always the possibility that new boss Claudio Ranieri will shut up shop and try to stop the rot. But if Napoli can make the breakthrough, the Romans will have to come out and try to find an equaliser from somewhere.

And their domestic goal scoring record of late tells us Roma has goals in them.

Romelu Lukaku to score anytime

After a bright start to the season, goals have dried up a touch for Romelu Lukaku lately.

That said, he did find the back of the net in the 2-0 win away in Milan, and he is also coming into this match on the back of a nice rest over the recent international break.

Overall this season, Lukaku has four goals and four assists in 13 Serie A matches. So despite only scoring two goals in his last six and one in his last three, his overall stats are good.

Furthermore, Napoli’s last two matches – in which Lukaku failed to score – are hard to judge him on. The defeat to Atalanta was one of those days, and the 1-1 draw away to Inter was a backs-to-the-wall display, with strikers only having scraps to feed off.

After his slightly controversial no show for Belgium, wouldn’t it be just typical for Lukaku to go and get himself on the scoresheet this Sunday.
