Both teams will come into the fixture badly needing the win, but for very different reasons. Juventus may be unbeaten, but they still only have 28 points from their 16 matches. The Old Lady have drawn an extraordinary ten of their Italian top-flight fixtures this season. Hosts Monza sit in the relegation places with just ten points from 16 matches. The white and reds have won only one Serie A match all season and are in serious danger of dropping down to Serie B at the end of this term. Former Italy defender Alessandro Nesta took charge of the team in the summer. Nesta took over a group of players who did extremely well under previous boss Raffaele Palladino, who did an extraordinary job in his two seasons in charge. In the 2022/23 season, Palladino guided Monza to 11th in the table, a massive 21 points clear of the relegation zone. Then in 2023/24, he had similar success, this time guiding i biancorossi to a 12th place finish, ten points clear of the bottom three. At the conclusion of last season, Palladino left to take over at Fiorentina. And it’s fair to say he is being badly missed. Monza have managed just one win under new boss Nesta in Serie A. The solitary win came on Matchday 8 in the form of a 3-0 victory away at Verona. Since then, things have simply gone from bad to worse, with Nesta’s team losing five of their next eight in the league, and six from nine in all competitions. Probably the most damaging result of all came last Sunday when the white and reds lost 2-1 to Leece in a six-pointer. Monza didn’t register one attempt on target in the whole match. An own goal from Leece’s Patrick Dorgu was the only positive for Nesta’s team. Along with a 4-0 defeat to Bologna in the Round of 16 in the Coppa Italia, Monza has now lost their last three in all competitions. And when you haven’t won in over two months, the last thing you need is to be hosting the only unbeaten team in Serie A. Now managed by Thiago Motta (who took over in the summer), Juve are unbeaten in Serie A, winning six and drawing ten. The Old Lady are just outside the top four with 28 points. Although unbeaten, there is a feeling of frustration with Juve’s inability to turn draws into wins. As a result, pressure has been growing on Motta in recent weeks. And after their 2-2 draw at home to Venezia on Saturday, the coach came in for a lot of criticism from the Italian press on Sunday. Some of the accusations being thrown at Motta is that his team lacks personality, and they have no killer instinct. His tactics are also coming under increased scrutiny, and the club’s big money summer signings are also underperforming. On a positive note, la Vecchia Signora has defeated Manchester City in the Champions League in recent days, and they also beat Cagliari 4-0 in the Round of 16 in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday. Those recent wins have taken some of the heat off the coach and team after their three most recent Serie A draws. The last of which required a 95th-minute spot kick from Dusan Vlahovic to rescue a home point against bottom of the table Venezia. Monza is a team with little confidence. It’s hard to see them creating many chances against the Old Lady, never mind scoring.
And we’ve already established that Juventus badly needs a win.
If Juventus is to win, it is more likely to be a low scoring victory.
Back Juventus to win and under 3.5 goals at 11/10 with Betfred
Both teams to score (No) and under 2.5 goals
This fixture could be ideal for all the insomniacs in Italy.
With just 12 goals conceded, Juventus have one of the tightest defences in Serie A. And don’t forget, four of those goals came in one match, the extraordinary 4-4 draw away at Inter in late October.
Monza didn’t register one shot on target in their 2-1 loss to relegation rivals Leece last weekend. Their presence on the scoresheet was down to an own goal.
Monza have also only scored four in their last eight in all competitions, and just 14 in the league all season.
In their current form, it’s really hard to see the hosts scoring. The result has a look of 1-0 or 2-0 to Juventus.
This bet even covers the dreaded 0-0 draw we all fear.
Back no in both teams to score and under 2.5 goals at 10/11 with Paddy Power
Dusan Vlahovic to score anytime
One of the main reasons head coach Thiago Motta isn’t under more pressure at Juventus is the form of striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The 24-year-old Serbian has seven Serie A goals in 14 appearances, and in all competitions he has 12 goals in 20 matches for his club.
Perhaps more significantly, Vlahovic really has come to the rescue of his boss in recent weeks.
In the Matchday 6 Champions League win over Manchester City, it was Vlahovic who opened the scoring and set Juve on their way to a 2-0 victory.
He then got his head coach out of jail by firing in the 95th-minute spot kick against Venezia at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Matchday 16 of Serie A.
Then in Juve’s most recent match, Vlahovic got the opening goal in the Old Lady’s 4-0 Coppa Italia win over Cagliari on Tuesday.
We expect a low scoring match. Vlahovic could be the player to make the difference.
He is 31/10 to score first, and the same odds to score last. We are backing him to score any time.
