Kate Middleton included a chic nod to her royal wedding day at her Christmas carol service.
On Dec. 6, Princess Kate, 42, stepped out for her fourth annual Together at Christmas carol service at in London. The Princess of Wales was all smiles as she arrived, making a poignant fashion statement in a bold red coat topped with a black bow from her wedding designer, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Adding extra significance, the service took place at Westminster Abbey, the same iconic venue where Kate married Prince William.
Princess Kate is known to send messages through her clothes and jewelry, and seemingly streamlined her style when she became the Princess of Wales upon King Charles' accession in 2022.
"I think this is her power moment — she's easing into the Princess of Wales role and that promotion that she's had in such a beautiful way," Bethan Holt, fashion director at the Daily Telegraph, previously told PEOPLE. "She's got this big new title, and she's dressing for that job."
Both personally and professionally, it's a major night for the Princess of Wales, who announced in September that she completed chemotherapy. Princess Kate announced in March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and stepped outside of the spotlight for most of 2024 to focus on her health.
The Princess of Wales called it a "relief" to have completed chemo when she shared that news about her health, but emphasized that she would continue to take "each day as it comes."
Princess Kate has scaled back her royal duties this year to prioritize her health, resulting in fewer high-profile fashion moments. However, she has continued to make thoughtful, curated style choices during her public appearances. For instance, she upcycled a white dress she first wore during King Charles' coronation weekend in May 2023, for the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June. She also reworked a military-inspired black coatdress by Catherine Walker & Co., which she already had in her wardrobe, for the Cenotaph Service on Remembrance Sunday.

"I think she recognizes she has lots of beautiful pieces already in her wardrobe, which, with a few small tweaks, can look entirely new,” Holt tells PEOPLE about Princess Kate's fresh-eyed style and new proclivity to give existing looks second spins.
The Princess of Wales has also experimented with her usual jewelry this year and occasionally switched out her iconic sapphire engagement ring that previously belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, for a sparkly stack of bands including an unusual new eternity ring.
