While both guys have worked with major fashion houses (Prada and Loewe to name but two), they've also got their own thing going on. And nowhere was that more on display than at a Sydney photocall for Wicked earlier this week.On one side of the menswear spectrum, Goldblum wore a brown cropped single-breasted, single button jacket with an olive shirt (and huge, huge, huge sleeves). The actor’s light khaki pants were roomy too, pooling over his leather Loewe Campo boots and he threw on his signature Jacques Marie Mage sunnies. The luxury eyewear brand named the ‘Jeff’ specs after him, which makes sense when you consider he’s been flying the flag for chunky frames since the ‘80s.The actor took the formula of tiny shirt, big pants, and factored in a tailored jacket, resulting in a very 2024 take on the steezy sitcom college lecturer uniform. It still has all the structure of a traditional blazer, but chills it out a bit. Bailey doubled down on his steamy menswear game, pairing his tiny shorts with a translucent polo, both of which came courtesy of Naples-founded label Giuliva Heritage.Sure, you might associate shorter inseams with the super casual rugby shorts worn by Mescal and others, but Bailey’s fit shows how you can wear them on the red carpet too. The Giuliva shorts are pleated, high waisted and cuffed, much like a dress trouser. And when you pair them with a leather loafer, rather than a sneaker, you’re set for something slightly more polished. The Wicked actor finished off the fit with an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional rendered in the watchmaker's high performance Moonshine Gold. As far as timepieces go, this is a pretty mighty ticker. If Jeff Goldblum and Jonathan Bailey’s Wicked photocall fits showed us one thing, it’s the true breadth of menswear in 2024, where sheer shirts, cropped jackets, tiny shorts, and massive pants can all happily co-exist in the same universe.
