Jamie Carragher names two signings Arsenal must make to challenge for title

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has revealed which signings he believes are key to Arsenal challenging for the title this season. Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League with a six point gap to Arsenal on 36 points in second place. Carragher made predictions for 2025 in the footballing worldGetty Writing in The Telegraph, Carragher made predictions for the year in football for 2025, adding that the Premier League ‘is between Liverpool and Arsenal’. “Arsenal’s biggest problem right now is their injuries. They managed to avoid too much disruption in the last two years but their squad has been stretched this time” he wrote. “Mikel Arteta will find the answers to ensure the team improves in the second half of the season, and they have built valuable experience of a run-in. If they can get to March still close, they will believe.” The former Liverpool defender added: “I am speaking with my head and heart when saying Liverpool will pip them [Arsenal] to first place. “Arne Slot’s attacking options are the strongest in the Premier League. My only worry for Liverpool is if they pick up injuries to their big players. “If they can avoid them, they will be difficult to catch. Chelsea will finish third and despite their issues I see Manchester City finishing in the last Champions League spot.” On what Arsenal need for their squad in 2025, he insisted that the north London side will ‘need to freshen up’ whether they win the league or not – namely with two attacking signings. “Arteta has been too reliant on the same players, none more so than Bukayo Saka,” he added. “Arteta needs at least two more top attacking players. I am not talking about back-ups in the event of injury, but starters who will keep the opposition manager guessing as to what the starting XI will be”. Carragher also discussed Arsenal’s need for goals as their recent focus has been on restoring defensive stability at the back. Saka could be out until February or March with a hamstring injuryGetty Saka is set to be out for a spell of two months after picking up a hamstring injury during the match against Crystal Palace last week. Raheem Sterling would be an obvious stand-in for Saka, though the Chelsea loanee suffered a knee injury and won’t return until a few weeks time. Sterling was amongst a host of new recruits for Arsenal in the summer, along with midfielder Mikel Merino, and Riccardo Calafiori. Arsenal may utilise the January transfer window as a chance to bolster their attacking options, either with a striker or a replacement for Saka on the right wing.
