Is Luke Littler still at school and where is he from? Teenage darts sensation on cusp of world glory
Most 17-year-olds are known for sleeping in late, gaming and being at sixth form or college, but not Luke Littler. Instead, he’s preparing to take part in a second consecutive World Darts Championship final, where he will face Michael van Gerwen. Littler’s mastery of the dart board at such a tender age is specialGetty Should he win, he would become the youngest world champion in the Professional Darts Corporation’s [PDC] history, eclipsing Van Gerwen himself. He is also set to bank a minimum of £200,000, taking his earnings for the season above the £800,000 mark, but he could walk away with more if he wins. That is because the winner of this competition takes home £500,000, which isn’t too bad for 17. Is Luke Littler in school? No, Littler has dropped out of education to focus on being a full-time darts player. He went to Padgate Academy in Warrington and left when he was 16. The Nuke revealed in January 2024 that he didn’t manage to pass any GCSEs, bar Physical Education [PE]. Speaking after his win over Rob Cross in last year’s semi-final, he said: “I don’t have any GCSEs, everyone probably has more than me. “Although, I did pass my sport.” Kids under the age of 18 in the UK must remain in some form of education or training until they are 18. Littler’s already earned over a million in prize money since becoming a professional darts playerGetty However, that doesn’t mean they have to stay in school and can instead choose to train in something. There is nothing to suggest that Littler is trying to learn any other skill, but given he is a professional sportsman, there has obviously been an exception made. Where is Luke Little from? Littler was born in the English town of Runcorn on January 21, 2007. Runcorn is in Cheshire, but he has lived most of his life in Warrington. Warrington is another English town on the River Mersey, and it is pretty much slap-bang in the middle of Liverpool and Manchester. However, despite living in Warrington and going to school there, that isn’t where he’s honed his craft. Littler is a regular visitor to the St Helens Darts Academy, which is ten miles away from Warrington. This is where he has spent many hours of his life practising and working on his darting ability. The St Helens Academy even hosted a special watchalong for Littler’s 2024 final against Luke Humphries, and since his emergence, there has been a huge uptake in darts around the country from young people who have been inspired by Littler.
