‘His chin is letting him down’ – Anthony Joshua urged to retire by Simon Jordan and Barry McGuigan after brutal Daniel Dubois KO

Simon Jordan and Barry McGuigan want to see Anthony Joshua hang up his gloves after his brutal knockout loss to Daniel Dubois. AJ was handed the fourth defeat of his professional career in September by his fellow countryman in a fight that saw him touch down four times en route to the eventual fifth-round knockout. Joshua was KO’d by Dubois in September at Wembley StadiumGetty It marked the second time he had been knocked out as a professional, with Andy Ruiz Jr being the first man to finish Joshua in a shock upset back in June 2019. Since then, Joshua has been able to stand up to the power of six opponents although McGuigan and Jordan both agree that Joshua’s punch resistance is shot after his gruelling encounter with Dubois. “I think he has a chance against Tyson Fury, I don’t think he has a chance against Usyk and I don’t think he has a chance either against Daniel Dubois,” said McGuigan on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show on Thursday lunchtime. “Dubois is an explosive puncher on the way up and I don’t want to be negative but I think Joshua’s ability to take a punch has disappeared. “And you cannot be in a boxing match with guys of that weight, size and power without having a good chin. “I think his chin is letting him down and I don’t think he should fight anymore. “If I was him I would never box again. He has done enough in the sport, he has been great. “He deserves his chance but if you’re asking me my honest opinion I think he has a great chance against Fury but against Usyk and Dubois, they will both take him out. “If I were managing AJ I would say stop, don’t do it anymore. “You have already done great things in the sport, you have a great reputation, he’s a lovely young man and he has a career in commentary ahead of him if he wants it. Jordan and McGuigan think Joshua’s punch resistance is gone “There’s loads of things he can do, I just think his ability to soak up a shot has disappeared and therefore that is the time to exit.” Jordan then chimed in: “I never felt that Anthony had been rehabilitated… “And I felt the first time someone put one on his whiskers, he would go and that is what Daniel Dubois did… “I don’t think Anthony Joshua should fight again, I think he was cleared out and cleaned out by Daniel Dubois and it will be very difficult to contest that and to process that in his thinking. “Commercially everyone around him is probably saying ‘Well, there is so much money why would you be going out now?’ “This boy has earned £300m, he doesn’t need to be in the boxing ring anymore.” Joshua has confirmed he will continue boxingGetty Despite the calls for his retirement, Joshua has insisted that he will continue competing after falling to defeat against Dubois. According to his promoter Eddie Hearn, they are aiming to land the much-anticipated all-British showdown with Tyson Fury as well as a rematch with Dubois before his career is said and done.
