Healthy Living After 50: My Top Wellness and Fitness Picks

As we age, taking care of our wellness and fitness becomes even more essential. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about feeling good, staying active, and living life to the fullest. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’m passionate about healthy living and feeling my best as I age. That includes finding the best tools to support my health and fitness journeys.

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite wellness and fitness finds for women over 50. These are products I personally love and use, and they make staying healthy a little easier.

1. Beam Dream Powder

Getting good sleep is so important, and Beam Dream Powder has been a game-changer for me. This delicious nighttime drink has magnesium, melatonin, and reishi to help you relax and get the deep, restful sleep we all need. Sleep can get trickier as we age, but it’s key for recovery and overall wellness. It feels like such a treat before bed, and it helps me wind down for the night.

2. Oura Ring

As we age, tracking our sleep, activity levels, and overall health becomes more important than ever. The Oura Ring provides actionable insights that help you understand your body better and make healthier choices. I’ve been wearing an Oura Ring since 2022, and I love this ring!

Here’s what makes it special:

  • Sleep Tracking: The Oura Ring is renowned for its sleep monitoring capabilities. It doesn’t just track how long you slept; it also breaks down your sleep cycles (light, deep, and REM sleep) and provides a nightly Sleep Score. For women over 50 who may experience sleep disruptions, this feature is invaluable for identifying patterns and improving rest.
  • Readiness Score: Every morning, the Oura Ring gives you a readiness score based on your sleep, activity, and heart rate variability (HRV). This score helps you determine whether it’s a good day to push your limits or focus on recovery.
  • Activity Insights: Unlike some trackers that pressure you to hit arbitrary step goals, the Oura Ring tailors activity suggestions based on your body’s readiness and recent activity levels.
  • Temperature Tracking: Hormonal changes can impact your body temperature, especially during menopause. The Oura Ring tracks your temperature trends, helping you identify shifts and patterns that might impact your wellness.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring: It tracks your resting heart rate and HRV, both of which are excellent indicators of overall health and stress levels.

3. Weighted Vest (For Added Strength Training)

A weighted vest helps elevate your fitness routine and adds an extra challenge to your workouts. (It’s always a good idea to check with your doctor before adding anything to your exercise routine). Whether you’re walking, running, or strength training, wearing a weighted vest can help improve your endurance, build strength, and even boost calorie burn. It’s a versatile piece of equipment ideal for women over 50 looking to maintain muscle mass, increase bone density, and make their workouts more effective. I use a 10 lb. weighted vest when I’m walking.

Benefits of Using a Weighted Vest

  1. Improves Strength and Muscle Tone
  2. Enhances Bone Density
  3. Boosts Cardiovascular Health
  4. Supports Calorie Burn
  5. Improves Posture and Core Stability
  6. Versatile for All Fitness Levels

4. Tennis Shoes Designed for Support

Your shoes can make or break your workout, especially as you age. I’ve learned the importance of choosing tennis shoes with ample cushioning and arch support. Brands that focus on ergonomics and stability are worth the investment. These HOKA Clifton 9 Sneakers have been my go to sneakers for working out.

5. Creatine for Strength and Muscle Support

I’ve shared before that I’ve incorporated creatine into my daily supplement routine. It’s a fantastic option for women over 50 who want to maintain muscle mass and strength. It supports energy production during workouts and can help with recovery. Adding a small scoop to your post-workout smoothie is an easy way to incorporate it into your routine.

6. Electrolytes for Hydration

Staying hydrated is crucial; adding electrolytes to your water can help replenish minerals lost during exercise. I use the RE-LYTE electrolytes and add them to my water bottle while working out. They’re especially helpful on hot days or after an intense session. Plus, they’re available in a variety of flavors to suit your taste.

7. Ancient Minerals Magnesium Bath Flakes: The Ultimate Relaxation and Recovery Tool

Ancient Minerals Magnesium Bath Flakes are a great addition to your routine if you’re looking for a simple yet effective way to relax, soothe sore muscles, and support overall wellness. These highly concentrated bath flakes provide a luxurious, spa-like experience while directly delivering magnesium benefits through your skin. For women over 50, magnesium can play a crucial role in promoting muscle recovery, easing stress, and even supporting restful sleep, making these bath flakes a perfect fit for your wellness regimen.

Benefits of Ancient Minerals Magnesium Bath Flakes

  1. Relieves Muscle Tension and Soreness
  2. Promotes Relaxation and Stress Relief
  3. Supports Healthy Sleep
  4. Replenishes Magnesium Levels
  5. Soothes Dry or Irritated Skin

8. RENPHO Smart Scale: A Smarter Way to Track Your Health

The RENPHO Smart Scale is more than just a bathroom scale—it’s a complete health-tracking device designed to give you a deeper understanding of your body and help you stay on top of your wellness goals. Whether focused on weight management, muscle gain, or just monitoring your overall health, this smart scale provides valuable insights beyond just your weight. The app is free to use with this scale.

Tips for Staying Active Over 50

In addition to using these fantastic products, here are a few tips I’ve found helpful for staying active and healthy as we age:

  • Stay Consistent: Small, consistent efforts add up over time. Even 20-30 minutes of movement daily can make a big difference.
  • Mix It Up: Variety keeps things interesting and challenges your body in different ways. Try alternating between cardio, strength training, and flexibility-focused activities.

Wellness and fitness look different for everyone, but finding products that work for you can make the journey more enjoyable. These are my tried-and-true favorites that help me stay active, feel good, and take care of myself—inside and out.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and Instagram.

John 14:27 was my Mom’s favorite verse. I can still hear her saying it to me and reminding me of the peace that only comes from Jesus.

Jesus’ peace is different from the kind of peace we get from the world. When someone says, “Don’t worry about it,” you can still feel nervous or uneasy, but with Jesus’ peace, you feel calm and safe, no matter what’s happening around you.

So, the next time you feel nervous or afraid, stop and talk to Jesus. Ask Him to help you feel His peace. He promises to calm your heart and remind you that you’re never alone.
