An Oklahoma woman who was severely injured in a car crash that killed her son as they were en route to a Kansas City Chiefs game last month continues to grieve his tragic passing.

"He had that big, huge bright smile that lit up a room," Megan Barnett told ABC affiliate KOCO about her late 18-year-old son Connor Barba. "He was a genuine and kind person [who] would go out of his way to help anybody."

On Nov. 2, while the two were driving to Kansas City, Missouri, for the Monday Night Football game between the Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Megan and Connor were involved in a car crash in Kansas, KOCO previously reported.

The Kansas Highway Patrol crash report said a Chevrolet Camaro was in the southbound lane and crossed the center "for an unknown reason" before hitting the family's vehicle in the northbound lane.

Both Connor and the driver of the Camaro, who police identified as Joseph Savage, 45, of Coffeyville, were killed.

The mom was taken to the intensive care unit at a hospital in Tulsa, according to a GoFundMe established to help pay for Barnett’s medical expenses and funeral costs.

As she recovers from the ordeal, Megan told KOCO she couldn’t recall much about the crash.

"The last thing I remember is him putting his bag from his truck here into my car,” she said. “I don't remember any of it."

She then described waking up in the ICU and asking, "Connor didn't make it, did he?"

Megan had surprised her son with tickets for the Nov. 4 Chiefs-Buccaneers game to celebrate his 18th birthday, as the mom was a big Chiefs fan and Connor was an admirer of Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield. Upon hearing the news of the crash, both teams made donations to the family according to KOCO.

She told KOCO that she didn’t have the words to express her gratitude for those who have supported the family, including "people I don't even know.”

Meanwhile, Megan, who suffered multiple injuries, including a broken foot and vertebra, spent three weeks in the ICU and then was transferred to a rehab facility, according to the report. More than a month after the crash, she returned home.

"It's unfair, in my opinion, but I'm not going to argue God's plan," she told the outlet. "God had a plan for Connor, and I can't be mad at it."

The mom said she takes comfort in knowing "where he is, and to me, that is all that matters.”
