‘Floyd Mayweather’s son’ – Jake Paul issues brutal response to Gervonta Davis call-out and names conditions for fight
Jake Paul has ripped into Gervonta Davis when responding to a surprise fight call-out. The YouTuber-turned-boxer’s name is currently firmly in the spotlight after he defeated 58-year-old heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a huge event in November. Paul has not held back in his assessment of DavisAl Bello/Getty Images for Netflix A whole host of world champions have called out Paul, including WBA lightweight champion and boxing superstar Davis. He criticised Paul’s display against Tyson, before claiming he would step in and fight ‘El Gallo’ next. But in typical fashion, the ‘Problem Child’ didn’t hang around in responding, also taking aim at boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. He wrote on Twitter: “Floyd’s little son calling me out?… Come on little tank [Davis], you know better. “I saw you pretend like you didn’t know who Amanda Serrano & Katie Taylor are. “Do better & maybe one day I will give you a platform to shine again after that budget basic press conference you just had.” Davis is currently undefeated having won all 30 of his fights as a professional, so calls from Paul to improve may fall on deaf ears. Any fight will be highly unlikely to happen, given Paul weighed in excess of 200lbs for his most recent outing, drawing a huge size gap to ‘Tank’. Davis has fought the majority of his career at 135lbs, and would need an open weight bout to accept it. The Mayweather dig came in reference to the mentorship from the boxing legend of Davis, who guided his career into the sport. Paul has also feuded with Mayweather, including when the pair clashes in 2021 after he stole the legend’s hat at a press conference. Despite a fight with Davis being unlikely, Paul has regularly laid out an ambitious plan to become a world champion in boxing. And surprisingly after beating Tyson, Paul insisted it could happen in the next two years, but most likely in the cruiserweight division. “I think it could happen in the next 24 months,” he said. “I truly, truly believe in my skills, my ability and my power. Paul dragged Floyd Mayweather into the feud “The cruiserweight division is seemingly open for the taking on that timeline, and I believe can become a world champion. “[If I] do it within six years of starting to learn to throw a f***ing jab, I think it will be the greatest sports story ever. “I know it’s going to happen.” Paul has not currently got a world ranking, so will need to fight legitimate opponents from the circuit to position himself for a title shot.
